Actually this is the real thing cast in bronze by Alighiero e Boetti, titled Selfportret, 1993. It stands in the sculpture garden of the Museum of Modern Art, across the street from where I work.

Continuing the sculpture theme:

Ghent, Belgium. Already a few weeks ago since I was there and about time I shared some of it's beauties. It's definitely a city I'd recommend anyone visiting Europe.

Where to begin....I'll try showing it as I saw it. (I hope nobody minds that I don't know what the history is of all the buildings i saw) Anyway follow the guide and let me take you on a tour ;)

First building I saw after we left the car park at the Reep. I have no idea what it is called I just loved the fact that the buildings around and behind it were all in/from different style and periods

View of the St. Bavo's Cathedral. I regret not going inside to see The Mystic Lamb by Van Eyck or the work of Rubens and others that decorate the inside. I did climb the tower though and enjoyed the spectacular views.

The tour continues....

Geeraard de Duivelsteen a 13th century castle built by knight Gheeraert Vilain, nicknamed The Devil. I wonder whether that's where the word villain originated... His castle has had many uses over the centuries. It's been a weapon depot, seminary, monastery, lunatic asylum, school, prison and so on.

I couldn't resist taking a pic of the flowers growing along the canal

View to the right. There were some major works going on in and around the canal. I wonder what it will look like when it's finished

This concludes todays tour. ;) More on Ghent another time.

It is not too late (August 30) to participate in the annual 'La Tomatina' festival, a tomato party in Bunol, Spain. Thirty thousand people show up to toss 120 tons of tomatoes at each other. I wonder what it is like to wallow in tomatoes.:D
