The Huguenot Monument forms a tribute to the French settlers of the Franschoek region, South Africa.

Franschoek, (means "French Corner"). The town dates back to the 17th century when the French Huguenots were expelled from France because of their Protestant faith and headed for South Africa. The newcomers settled in one the most picturesque valleys in the Western Cape, with a mixture of vineyards, Cape Dutch architecture and French Huguenot culture.

We have French Huguenots in my part of the world too. I wasn't aware they were in South Africa--- I suppose they fled to many parts of the world. Thanks for the pix!!

The State Fair of Texas is going on in Dallas right now. Here are some pics of that:

The photographer's name is Carolyn Brown. I use to know her years ago, she's a really neat person!

It's a real "State Fair," with live stock competitions, cooking, baking, quilts, art, photography, car shows, a Midway! Good times! :gogirl:

Along the terrace next to Chateau Frontenac.
Recent repairs have led to an archeological dig. Not only have they found canonballs and other items giving them more insight to how the defences were built and used but they have also discovered skeletons and bones among the stones. After the repairs and research have been finished, these graves will be left as they once were.
