buzzj, I have pics of all 4 bridges, but the one I think you might be most interested in is the John Frost bridge (or old bridge as it's known locally), that's the bridge that was fought over in WWII and the allies was failed to capture.

It's still recognizable as the bridge I saw in the sixty year old pictures on the internet. Its serene appearance belies its past!

Are you able to tell us more about this location? It looks like it might be a church or monastery---except that really doesn't seem to fit with the obelisk and statuary.
 
During the days of segregation in the South--- Depot Hill in my home town was a vibrant center of black business and social life. Now the depot has been moved to a new location (it serves as a welcome center) and only a few businesses remain.

Yes, I can tell you about it, this is the city of Veliko Turnovo (Great Turnovo) which was the third Bulgarian capital (1185 and 1396) and capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire.

The city has an ancient history. It's situated on several hills that rise above the Yantra river. One of the hills is called "Tsarevets" (King's Hill) where the medieval fortress of Tsarevets, it's where the Bulgarian kings of the second Bulgarian empire lived.

The location on that picture is right in the middle of the city on a small island along the Yantra river. The building on the hill is not a church or monastery, it's the town's history museum. The monument in the middle is a sword that rises from the ground.

Actually, under that museum there is a tunnel and a highway goes from one bridge across a tunnel to another bridge then into another tunnel...

Hihi. I' know Turnovo very well, been there a couple of times. I have some funny stories from this city too.

I was there this past fall with my English friend. We spent 2 days there he liked it a lot.
