People lived on bridges because they were vital strategic points and felt safer there than on land: in the case of that château, it should be no weirder and kooler to you than a castle surrounded by a moat filled up with water.

I didn't understand most of the narrative - but I knew it was a heavily Castillian Spanish speaker.
I'm guessing was a journey to Mandelay from 1940, speaking of the castle from its former days?

I took this photo when I was about ten. Sometimes I still wonder what it is. It's probably Hadleigh Castle.

I labelled it Dover Castle because I remember we went on holiday there about that time. But we used to live in Benfleet, near Hadleigh Castle. They still call it a romantic ruin but in fact it's just a ruin. The romantic bit fell down long ago.
