Just How Seriously Do You Take JUB?

I take it rather seriously -- if I didn't, I wouldn't be here; those who come for porn and nothing else need to grow up and get a life -- and those who claim it's just a porn site but read the forums are liars.

If I'd known about JUB a year before I did, my coming out would have been a lot easier, i.e. less confusing and traumatic. As it is, JUB has been a lifeline, a place to ask questions about this whole business of being a man who likes men, without getting my head bitten off, or getting laughed at and dissed for being "old" and not knowing, etc. etc. And when my family ditched me for being "wicked" and "immoral", JUB was my family for a time.
And it's been a place where I've been able to help others quite a bit in turn. a place also that I can point people to, a place sufficiently rich in community that staff at the local men's center in Portland consider it a resource for guys who are confused and hurt due to being gay.

I know if I wanted to discuss the life and works of Shakespeare, the thoughts of Plato or Aristotle, and how life has improved from the classic periods to where we are now...


That there'd be a few other JUBers willing to talk up a storm about it, but just as many who'd ignore it. Or worse, ones who make the strange comments when some posts something overly serious.

Oh well, it's best to post it anyways and still get some replies, then not to post it at all I guess...

I haven't found the porn on this site either, and I haven't looked for it either. I guess for me it depends on the thread I am reading. There are some I take seriously, and there are others than about 5 or 6 posts in to the thread, I realize that maybe I shouldn't be taking it seriously. Then there are the posts that from the moment I read the title, I know that there is no way that anyone should ever under any circumstances be taken seriously.

I take the forums seriously enough to still be here nearly fours years after I originally joined. I've left a couple of times in the past and then returned because I genuinely missed my interaction with many of the people here.

I take my participation seriously even if I am here to be amused and part of an Internet community.

I am slightly untrusting of members comments until they have proved, in my eyes, their honesty and serious natures.

Obviously I am addicted but I don't let the content nor the communications between other members drown out the fact that it is not the "real life" in which I actual exist.

A mere couple days ago, when I was on the brink of leaving JUB over an issue I had (which only affected me indirectly at most), it certainly got me thinking about the importance of this site - and thinking about it more than before. To be consistent with my values, I would have needed to leave, if events had gone the direction they were threatening to.

I guess that "taking this site seriously" and considering it to be "by far the most important gay site I'm aware of on the internet" WOULD be the same thing, right? This is ostensibly a porno site, but it's also a massive community centre, a support group, an amalgam of "clubs" of all types, a place to find new friends, a place to find advice on anything, and so much more.

I don't recall how it was I managed to stumble onto JUB. I was probably "surfing around" for Gay porn! And, the price was certainly Right! (i.e. FREE!)

And then I started reading the forums ...

I got up the nerve to start posting, and I was getting replies! Through that interaction, I began to feel as though I was actually getting to know some very "kewl" people, from all over the World!

And, then I slowly became accustomed to some of the other features of the site. How various "stuff" worked. The multiple channels that are available for communication among/between members. PM's, Comments, etc. Subscribing to Threads (and how to start them). How to post pics. Starting a gallery. The availablility of doing a Blog. (Which I haven't started, but have read many!)

And then there were Upgrades. Sincere requests from the Owners, Admins, and Mods, about how we felt about, and were getting along with, the changes. And they actually LISTENED!! They really did CARE!!

And, on top of that, there were the shared pics, and links, to tons of "porn stuff" that I'd never find by myself! But ... also with comments about it all, that I'd never hear from other guys/girls in Real Life!

Plus ... all the questions, and answers, on topics that No One, that I knew, would even consider bringing up, let alone openly, and fully, discuss!

And ... let's not forget the Smilies!!

So ... all in all ... I was venturing around for "Porn", and managed to find the most amazing site on the "Net"!! Not only was I most appreciative of what I had found, I also wanted to support it as best I could! Didn't want it "going away"!!

I joined "The Boys Club" (the Pay part), just as a way to show my appreciation. But ... I'm not sure when the last time was that I logged into it! And when the option of "JUB Supporter" was offered, you bet I signed up as fast as I could!

JUB is FAR MORE than "just" a Porn Site!!

Do I take it seriously? You Bet! It has changed my Life in ways that have been so unexpected! And it's all been because I've been allowed/enabled to interact with "Y'ALL"!!
