Just me? Or are many male models not hot?

I modeled for 15 years, which ended more than 15 years ago so I'm not sure I know anything about today's requirements but I'll tell you what I know.

Being good looking is definitely a requirement, though beauty is in the eye ... and all that.

For print work, bone structure is important because the camera can do some unattractive things to flesh that isn't supported by well angled bones, but if you have the right look, posture and attitude you don't necessarily need bones to get good runway work.

Beyond that, they look for models who can convey a concept with their eyes and body language. Remember that models aren't hired so people can look at beautiful faces, they're hired to sell something.

Its you. ITs all you.

Some people like it and some people don't

Since when is modeling about just looks?
It´s like saying that prostitution is about looks.
If you complain about the male business you may be happy you are not a girl: they definitely don´t care for pretty chicks any more.

It´s a very North-American Wasp attitude to rely on good teeth and hair and light eyes on a fit body to be sought after as a model of anything. That may be enough for the February issue of Sports Illustrated (yes, yes, I know for the editor of the magazine it´s not) or any Men´s Health cover or even A&F catalogs if you are under 24, but it has nothing to do with selling LVMH products.

Well, in any case, the fashion world is all about fads and the models just have to fit in: being turned down doesn´t mean you could not make a career in the future: that´s an advantage male models have always had over female ones.

I love the male body, in any color. Regarding black men, they often have an advantage over other races in being built right out of the box so to speak. For this reason I'm almost always attracted to black me in advertising; great chest, strong forearms & absolutely some of the most beautiful backs Ive ever seen!
What I DONT like about some modeling of blacks is when they are posed in the angry ghetto black role; often hateful/resentful looking.

Btw I_Just_Blew_My_Load86, how come I don't see any pictures of you in your gallery? 90%+ of the mens pics posted on JUBS are white, wheres your pic?

You could say there are two types  of models: the "mainstream" ones who are just there to embody a common prototype and those who may have been rejected at first for not "fitting in" but can be later used as a breakthrough in the established archetypes.
Black male models have no better references than the socially successful pimp type: like some version of the old courtisane type, a coating of glamour over the essential general despise/misunderstanding of their condition. Black males have good reasons to be hateful and resentful.

^^ No they certainly do not. No one has good reasons to be hateful and resentful.

(...)
I said "have good reasons" to be, not actually being like that .
And please, if most people think it´s ok to wish and/or say things like "he deserved to die", don´t tell me black people or women don´t have reasons to be resentful.
As for the genetics part, Cage had some point, but in these matters it is easy to fall in oversimplifications: you can not pump up a flat ass with all the working out and running in the world, and you have to admit that there are more visible well-rounded black asses and flat Wasp asses than the contrary: another thing is how they reflect the overall real situation.
In any case, what you are entitled to do must have the consent of other people: there are many social manias related to sex, position, shape of the nose and what not.

Social manias? Interesting you say that, because even in the black community there's an association with anything good being anything more Caucasian--nose shape, lip shape, hair, skin color, etc.
Hence the stereotype of the angry black male.

Certainly all the men used here were of a particular style...tall, lean, slender...and yes most had very strong features...

Were they all stunners...I dunno. Its always an individual taste thing thats for sure. Some were classically handsome, others not so much.

Personally I think its a good thing that these guys aren't all gods carved out of marble. I mean ultimately guys like us who, would have never even dared contemplate modeling, will try to emulate the style of clothing at some stage...at least we've got half a chance of pulling it off if an everyday guy next door is the model...

At a certain time, it may very well have been about the best looking people. But it's human nature to get bored with things. At first, you're facinated with the best looking faces. See enough of those faces, then you start looking for different things.

I've even noticed this within myself as I've gotten older. Sometimes an "interesting" face is more intriguing to me than a beautiful face. Back when I was younger, the prettier the better.

It's rare that I find a runway model attractive. They're not bad looking, of course, but there's just something odd about the way most of them look. I'm more likely to find an everyday kind of guy hot.

I'm with you...

The thing about models, male or female, is that they represent an ideal that is not all together possible. If they are on the runway then you at least 'see' them as they are but in print you just don't know. They are airbrushed and photoshopped to perfection.

I remember once when I worked at a bar talking to three male models. They sat there talking about their clothes and hair and how much of a drag it was to spend 5 hours a day in the gym.

None of them were much to look at, and I was kinda blown away by how annoying they all were.

One of them brought up the idea of having a group skiing trip somewhere and said "But I want to be very exclusive about who I invite"

"Oh yes," said the least attractive of the lot with this irritating smile, "Only fun, good looking models."

"No no," I said, "you should go too."

I spit in his drink.

^^
CagedBird: I think your accessment is particularly ignorant, because you are classifying an entire group of men. Not all black men are "built out of the box". We have just as many variations as any other race. Please stop.

Please re-read my post before quoting me inaccurately. Your assessment of my opinion was ill read. I did not classify an entire group:

I said "Regarding black men, they OFTEN have an advantage over other races in being built right out of the box so to speak."

The emphasis on OFTEN, which is defined as "SOMETIMES", "NOT ALWAYS".

I do admit I spelled assessment differently .....
