Reading more about it on wikipedia it says:

Upon the video's release, many internet bloggers noticed similarities between the choreography of "Single Ladies" and that of a June 1969 performance by Gwen Verdon on The Ed Sullivan Show entitled "Mexican Breakfast".[30] The latter—choreographed by Broadway legend, Bob Fosse—became an internet viral sensation when Unk's "Walk It Out" was dubbed over the original mix.[31][32][33] While promoting the song on BET's 106 & Park, Knowles stated that she was inspired by the video after viewing it on YouTube and wanted to see if she could attempt it.[34]

Just another way Beyonce showcases the fact she's an unoriginal, talentless hack.

You're late but it's okay cuz you're cute as hell.

Just another way Beyonce showcases the fact she's an unoriginal, talentless hack.

It's too early in the morning to be this pressed. Beyonce is a dedicated vocalist. Unoriginal? Hell yeah. Talentless? Hardly. She's one of the few pop vocalists who takes their job seriously, she's the epitome of professionalism.

She may be professional, and she may be able to control the vibrato in her voice, but she's a screamer, not a singer. I could hardly bear to hear her sing in "Dreamgirls".

Mind you, she puts on a heluva show, and I will give her kudos for being a good PERFORMER, but as a vocalist I can't give her any praise.

She doesn't just "control the vibrato", she has picture-perfect diction and impeccable breath control, she can sing passages upwards of 12-14 seconds. For a soprano she can also sing particularly low, I saw a vid of her singing a B2, that's a low tenor/baritone note. She's also capable of rapid passages and can sing in several languages.

but she's a screamer, not a singer.

Not really, she's a fairly accomplished vocalist for someone of her genre.

but as a vocalist I can't give her any praise.

Then you're not paying attention. Like her voice or not, she's one of if not the most technically proficient modern r&b vocalists.

You're right. Her lip synching last night at the Oscars, as well as on SNL a few months back, was most technically proficient.

What's your point? She lip-synched two performances so that means she can't sing? She usually sings live on her tours, she's been lip-synching on award shows for years.

I like it when you go in circles too, though I prefer your long stroke. But not singing live @ award shows doesn't mean she's incapable. I personally don't understand the reason she'd sacrifice credibility and keep the mike turned off but that's besides the point. On the other hand I really respect singers like Mary J. Blige and Pink and Fantasia who always have that mike turned on.

Now THERE are three examples of fantastic singers and performers. I would hardly put Beyonce in the same company, though.

And how do you know of my long stroke? Are there hidden cameras in my bedroom? :D

Marley, I would like to see that video. You mentioned that Fantasia could sing that low as well; I have yet to hear those notes come from those two. A thinned B3 yes, but Beyonce has only been slated at three octaves. Female singers have never been documented as going below a G2, and B's voice is standard, not unusual.

As far as the comments towards Beyonce herself. She's a decent singer, objectively. Compared to the majority of the entertainment industry, she's spectacular; she puts most other singers, male and female, to shame. Her technique is practically flawless.

Re: Just something i was directed to (Single Ladie

I made a mistake. The note that you mentioned, B2, is correct Marley. However, it's not unusual for a female to be able to sing that note.

This was so cute! So 60's

WHAT A JOKE

BEYONCE PLAYED THE CHARACTER OF THE GIRL WHO HAD THE WEAKER VOICE

BEYONCE ONLY SHOWCASED HER BIG VOCALS ON ONE SONG (LISTEN) YOU ARE ONE OF MANY PPUL WHO WILL USE ANY FRACTION OF AN EXCUSE TO SAY YOU DONT LIKE HER

SHE COPIES? WELL WHO THE FUCK DOESNT ALL SHIT HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE
SHE SCREAMS? HARDLY,BUT HER SCREAMS SOUND 9 TIMES BETTER THAN CHRISTINA AGUILERA AND HER LION ROARS ON EVERY SONG SHE SINGS OR JENNIFER HUDSON WHO TURNS EVERYTHING IN TO A BIG GOSPEL BALLAD BUT NOBODY SAYS SHIT ABOUT THEM

GET A LIFE

Re: Just something i was directed to (Single Ladie

^^^Not the damn X-tina and J-Hud comparisons again. Can we ever have a discussion about a female artist w/o resorting to all-out attacks on other female stars unrelated to the topic at hand?^^^

And please you don't even have to wonder. If Beyonce looked like Shabba Ranks, weighed as much as Star Jones and Oprah combined circa '97 and rocked an Anita Baker style haircut, you know that child wouldn't even be able to get four feet near a recording studio let alone the Kodak Theater.

Moe...speak on it. I concur with his statement. Why do female artists, who are talented in their own respects, have to be brought into a discussion about a completely different artist.

As far as Beyonce's looks affecting her career, her physical appearance did help her career. Everything from her waist size to her skin tone to her facial structure. There's truth to the song "Video Killed The Radio Star".

Why don't you go learn some Internet etiquette before making a fantastic rant such as the one above, mmkay? In the meantime, I, like everyone else here, am entitled to my opinions and am well within my rights to not like her.

Now how's about YOU get a life? ..|

Re: Just something i was directed to (Single Ladie

Oh God, another Beyoncé thread gone bad.

Anyway bad on to the original topic, it's really no secret where the 'single ladies dance' came from, as you mentioned she explained it herself on TV.

A lot of things being done today incorporate stuff from years ago... so this is not a surprise or anything, actually I'm glad newer gens get to somewhat experience great things from the past.
