Ugh to coffee dates with NO chemistry. But I was hungry and had sandwich. He was in a hurry anyway. SO...just minor vent. He didn't feel anything special and nor did I...But the lunch was kinda expensive for what it was. I just figured out that they make like a 1000% profit on a cup of tea. $2.50 for a 25 cent teabag. "we're cleaning out the fridge at noon" clearly means that they're cleaning out the fridge at 12 pm... which would imply that the food that I left in there at 3 pm to eat for dinner while I'm still working at 7-8 pm tonight would be safe.

but apparently for shits and giggles they decided not to clean out the fridge until 4 pm, and subsequently throw out all the food inside it... because fuck knows, working at a 24/7/365 IT company, there's no one working late shifts leaving food in the fridge.

So the other time, I was telling about my burnt floor tiles.

My appology. It's not floor tiles. It's wooden parquet flooring.

Anyway, I contact the serviceman, and he says he can replace the affected,damaged parquet area.

But he needs to smoothen, sandpaper, pour the thinner?? liquid to the entire parquet floor in my bedroom.

That means I have to move certain stuffs, furnitures? out of my bedroom for him to do that.

I thought about it long...and it's too much troublesome. I have to move my bed, work-out bench and equipments and many other stuffs out of my bedroom....just for a small area of burnt parquet flooring.

So I decided to buy a small rug and cover the burnt wooden parquet flooring.

I attach a copy of my burnt wooden parquet flooring. What do you guys think?

Maybe in the future, I will replace the burnt area with brand new parquets. But I guess in the meantime, I just cover it with a rug.

getting panic attack-y about introducing my boyfriend to the family tonight... tbh, I'm not ready to do it at all given that we've only been dating for 3 months, but he gives me so much shit over it I just want to get it over with so he finds something new to rant about when he gets drunk.

didn't help that my sister gave my grief over it this morning and told me that apparently my entire extended family is going to be at this event tonight (when I originally suggested that my BF come with me, I thought it was just going to be my sister, mom, and cousin... now I find out that it'll be 2 cousins and my aunt/uncle as well)

Since money is in short supply, you could just cover it with a rug, as you said, and repair it later when you are flush with cash.

Or....

Find someone who will repair just that spot, even if the end result is not perfect. You could always have the entire room sanded and refinished at a later date. New flooring is not likely to be a perfect match, that is why they need to do something with the entire floor. Unless, of course, you have to have some remnants of the original flooring.

I think you could sand it out yourself and splash on three coats of finish sometime when you're bored. That service man is just looking for a bigger check; he doesn't have to do the whole floor, not if he's good at what he does.

If you're handy at all, you could probably pull up those burnt pieces, and replace them with a few from the back of a closet where no one would miss them.

That's a good idea! It reminds me... a friend with a new house got repair pieces for a floor like that from an under-the-stairs storage space -- took them all out and put much plainer wood in tat space, so now he has a supply in case he needs more, and nothing looks odd because no one ever goes in there except maybe twice a year, and who would expect such a space to have the nice floor?

thank fucking god... my aunt/uncle/1 cousin cancelled because of the weather, and my mom is now hemming and hawing about not wanting to drive into Manhattan in the rain either.

so at this rate, unless the skies miraculously clear in the next 10-15 minutes, it should be just me, the boyfriend, and my lesbian cousin whose art show opening we're going to. I can handle that without a panic attack.
