I just want to say thanks to you all. Reading all your responses you helped me embrace my sexuality and come out about it. I was miserable and lonely, confused and embarrassed, but now I'm accepting of myself and who I am and love it. You have completely changed my life for the better, so I just felt I should drop a line to let you know. Thanks :D

I'm thrilled you've come out of your shell, so to speak!

You seem in better spirits now than you did earlier this month. So how have things been going since you've come out? Any plans to speak with the folks?

Hope you stick around!

Things have been going great. The load off my shoulders has made me much happier. I actually have hope for the future haha. All my friends were proud that I came out and very supportive which helped. All my guy friends apologized for making gay comments and have made an effort to not use the word "gay" or "fag" which was very nice. As soon as I turn 19 they are going to take me to a gay bar haha.

As for my folks, I don't plan on telling them until I'm out of college and don't have to have their support because my uncle was gay and my mom never let me see him because of it and they always make comments about how being gay is a sin and just lust. I don't want to have to deal with them because they are very stubborn and ignorant.

Congratulations on your personal growth and acceptance. It's been hard for many of us and we still deal with some of the same issues even after the fact. It's nice to hear stories like yours. (*8*)

Riden:

You sound like a guy with his head on straight........so to speak! lol

You realize you best NOT come out, because your financial base would be lost and as shallow as that might seem to some, I truly understand and think you are on the right track!!

You saw what happened to your Uncle when he came OUT and thought he would get the family's support, only to be blasted and cast out of the family forever!

Take your time, then when your education is finished, tell your wonderful supporting parents and if they are indeed homophobic toward you, tell them they can take their single-minded ideas and stuff it!

I canNOT understand how someone can turn on their on flesh and blood and just deny them their love and understanding...............can you?

Whew!

Well, friend, realize and know that we are FAMILY here on JUB and we stand by our own! If you need us for support, just let us know and we're there for you my friend!(*8*) (*8*)

Congratulations -

I hope you will share your story with others and be a mentor to them
We need strong examples as yourself
Thank you

It's such a morale boost to know of someone who felt empowered enough by JUB to pluck up the courage and decide to come out. The more than good reaction you received from your friends was an added bonus, which I guess just affirms to you that you made the right decision.

I think that it is wise of you to wait until you are more independent before coming out to your parents if they are so opposed to homosexuality. Although I hope you get your independence soon... as it can be tough trying to live a double life... (*8*)

I'm happy for you. I'm so glad that you've taken this first step while you are still young. Looking back on my life, I wish I had the guts to come out while I was young. I denied, denied, denied. It caused a lot of damage that I'm still dealing with today.

Good luck to you.
