Michelle Obama: "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country."

Since the mid-1980s when she became an adult, to now, nothing has made Mrs. Obama, potential First Lady of the United States, proud of our nation?

Re: Just words?

No, they are not just words. They are HER words and she will have to own them.

What bothers me more than anything is the constant repeating from the Obama camp that hope has returned.
Well, hope in what? Hope must be focused on something. Hope in change, I assume, is what they mean. However, change for changes sake is not enough. It's all well and good to inspire others but to what are you inspiring them?
Charisma is not what we need in our world. Courage and conviction and a PLAN would be good starting points, but we find precious little of that in any politician.
So, let's hear about the plan and stop with just words, like hope and change.

Re: Just words?

Honestly, all this tells me is she needs a better scriptwriter.

No matter who wrote it "This is Michelle Obama and I support this message".

Well, Obama presented some plans last week except OOPS! they were Hillary Clinton's plans.

White House hopeful Barack Obama's economic platform set off a three-way fight Wednesday as aides to Republican John McCain and Democrat Hillary Clinton accused Obama of stealing Clinton's ideas.

Obama fired back that McCain lacks economic know-how.

"Obama's plan today is the most shameless piece of potential plagiarism that I have ever seen," McCain economic advisor Kevin Hassett said. The Clinton campaign helpfully e-mailed his comments to reporters.

"He basically took Clinton's words and Clinton's policies and called them his own," Hassett said. "If I were a professor I'd give him an F and try to get him kicked out of school for something this terrible ... I remember Mrs. Clinton saying shared prosperity and I remember the bill that she introduced in August for infrastructure. The fact is these are things Obama has taken as his own without crediting the source of the ideas which was Mrs. Clinton."

Senator Obama’s only “new” ideas were ones that Senator Clinton proposed months ago:

* His “new” proposal for a national infrastructure bank is one that Hillary proposed August 8, 2007. [“I’m proud to co-sponsor Senator Dodd and Senator Hagel's National Infrastructure Bank Act that we just introduced to establish a federally-backed independent bank that will evaluate and finance large infrastructure projects by subsidies, loan guarantees, and bonds backed by the full faith and credit of the United States.” Rebuilding America speech, 8/8/07; S. 1926, 8/1/07]

* His “new” proposal to create 5 million green collar jobs was proposed by Hillary on November 5, 2007. [“And three, to move us from a carbon-based economy to an efficient, green economy by unleashing a wave of private-sector innovation in clean energy and energy efficiency. I believe that will create at least five million good new jobs from clean energy over the next decade.” Energy and Climate speech, 11/5/07]
o Google CEO Eric Schmidt praises Hillary’s plan to create 5 million Green Collar jobs, 11/5/07: “By emphasizing the connection between promoting a green efficient economy and job creation, Senator Clinton’s plan seeks to harness the power of technology and innovation to address one of our most pressing global challenges…The goal of producing 5 million new jobs can be achieved by private sector investment and bipartisan support for increased research and development in efficiency and clean energy.”

Only goes to show, neither is worth a vote for president.

Re: Just words?

This from Michelle Obama:
That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.

ICO - When are you going to get your soul fixed? Your obsession with hating Clinton and her supporters belies the Obama message of hope and change. Go get your poor broken soul repaired and maybe you will find something positive to post.

She's not the only one. heheh

Why can't the Obamaists come up with something other than from the Rove playbook?
Oh, I remember...they think Hillary will say anything to win and so the Obamaists go ahead and do dirty-spin as usual.

NickCole, you disappoint me. I'm relatively new to these boards but interested in politics. I have engaged in exchanges with you and, although I disagree with you, I have admired your knowledge and dedication. I also believed that you had integrity.

Now you post this video of Michelle Obama's speech. If you are not deaf, you can clearly hear that her words were distorted:

"For the first time in my adult life, I am REALLY proud of America."

Shame on you.

Re: Michelle Obama was never proud of the America

Until now........Interesting comments that are already coming back to haunt possible first lady Michelle Obama.....

This might even be a bigger story then plagiarism....

Here is what she said during a rally yesterday.....

“Hope is making a comeback and, let me tell you, for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change,” she said during a rally in downtown Milwaukee.

The media will play this out over the next couple of days.Probably nothing, but a poor choice of words.

Cindy McCain responded to a crowd at a campaign event....

As she introduced her husband John McCain, the likely Republican nominee, at a campaign event, Cindy McCain told the crowd I “am proud of my country. I don’t know about you, if you heard those words earlier — I am very proud of my country.”

Still think it's a big story? Are you still on board?

First of all, in the quote I wrote in text above the video I wrote, "really."

Secondly, she said the same line at least twice, once each in two separate speeches the same day. (See clips below)

The first time she didn't say "really" and the second time, when she did say "really," she didn't emphasize it the way you indicate as "REALLY proud of America" (and she didn't say "America," she said, "my country").

You haven't got any of it right so before you come after me about disappointment, integrity and shame, get yourself together.

But most importantly, the word "really" doesn't change the substance of what she said. You mention integrity and shame in a post that's dripping with spin and reinvention and disingenuousness -- and it's troubling to see that repeatedly in what Obama appears to be inspiring.

Re: Michelle Obama was never proud of the America

We have a thread on this. She actually said, "It is making a comeback and let me tell you something. For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country." What is in bold is a critical distinction from what you quoted.

She said the same thing earlier in the day without the "really."

Critical distinction, you say?

I don't care what Michelle, Bill, Cindy and the others say. They're not running for prez. Their spouse is.

Would you misuse the words of Malia Ann Obama, Chelsea Clinton or Bridget McCain to damage the political careers of their parents?

Just my two eurocents, of course.

Thanks for your two eurocents. It may not mean much to you, but others here and abroad cling to what the children say, too, and it causes a stirr. The media today, particularly here in the USA, tear into anything anyone says. Just the way it is.

Glad to see you treat comments by "the children" as just comments.

I noted the "really" on the other thread. I think, her statement is not important enough, to be getting this much attention. It is just more noise to detract from the important issues. Give her a break. Does anyone really believe that she isn't proud to be an American? Lighten up.

I noted the "really" on the other thread.

How did you note it?

Did you see the "really" as pivotal?

I think, her statement is not important enough, to be getting this much attention. It is just more noise to detract from the important issues.

Where on these forums, or anywhere, are Obama supporters showing an interest in "the important issues"??

Give her a break. Does anyone really believe that she isn't proud to be an American? Lighten up.

She said it at least twice. She's a very intelligent woman. Yeah I believe she meant what she said.

Or was it --in this one instance-- Just Words?

Michelle, if not controlled .........

could be a serious political liability

is it so hard to understand that an African American born in 1964 and who grew up on the south side of Chicago would feel so overwhelmed with pride to see a spouse be in the position for he is the front runner? This is the first real proof we have seen that anyone can grow up to be president -

Clinton fans should get a sense of deja vu - they went after Hillary in 1992 just the same -

This is about as significant and Mrs. Clinton's comments about "Stand by Your Man" and baking cookies.

She was talking about her pride at seeing a convergence of concerns among constituancies whose interests have often been at odds. She is proud that she is seeing Americans pulling together with a desire for comprehensive change. This is something kinda new, I guess.

Should it be an issue that Michele Obama has a new-found wellspring of pride in America? I don't think so.

gotta disagree jack

it seems to me more than that to me

like i said earlier - they put her under wraps early in the campaign, smartly i might add - when she showed her ability to get under people's skin and make inappropriate comments

not saying she's a bad person

but she's over her head here - and to me it doesn't come across as genuine - she's a little too enthralled with her husband and his effect on people - some things i believe are better left unsaid

she should chill

and my guess is they put her back in mothballs
