No...

There are MANY other ways to have dealt with that horrible situation...

Having said that -- If I was on the JURY (if they HAVE juries ) -- I'd be LENIENT...

:):):)

The villagers needed a plan to provide legal coverage for the murderer or a way to have acted together or a better hatched plan. I'd have a different thought if he hadn't done it for money. And what happened to the guy that hired him?

Yes, the killing was justified. One less tyrant in the world. The
"victim" would've probably continued being an asshole had he lived.

Situational ethics.........that guy deserved SOME kind of punishment........ :grrr:

That's pretty much how I feel about it.

I believe that killing is NEVER justified, I don't believe the young Chinese fellow had the right to take another persons life, nor does the Chinese Government have the right take a citizens life either.

Sure there are many instances of justified killing. There is a mind-boggling number of horrible psychopathic bastards of every stripe running around in this world, many of whom never get any punishment at all. Some even get handsomely rewarded for their perfidy.

At the same time there are a great many people who are fairly OK and would never hurt anyone, who get screwed over in just about every way you can think of.

I cannot muster any compassionate feelings for people who make the lives of others a living hell.

It wasn't done for justification just hard cash so the kid deserves jail for the rest of his natural life but the death penalty is never justified and descends mankind to the rankings of animals.

I certainly don't feel sorry for the official. There's not a lot of detail in the linked article, but I'll accept, given the consensus from the village, that there was strong justification in taking action to be rid of the official. Some kind of action, but not murder.

The accused, however, is a different issue. As far as I can tell, he was paid to be the instrument of someone else's revenge. It doesn't matter that we don't like the victim. The assassin, acting in cold blood and for financial gain, has to be punished.

Life itself isn't justifiable.

^^^ I LIKE THAT VIEWPOINT!

People are getting killed all the time. A good proportion of the worlds countries are either at war, or have been at war in living memory. There're plenty of unjustifiable - or justifiable - killings. It'll never stop. Why single out one isolated event?

Those who value life must be ready to take it. That's how I look at things.

Of course, it shouldn't be taken lightly and deserves some scrutiny.

But yeah, its justified.

The kid is a hero and he deserves to be treated like one. Give him a fucking medal and a lucrative job in politics.

A hero? Let's not forget the kid was paid to do it. :p

This area is very grey... I don't agree with him killing the man, but it did help the people of the village for the better. He definitely needed to be punished, but not by death.

i some instances yes it is justified. if you break into my house and i am here, there is a good chance you aren't going to make it out alive. ever read about some of these home invasion robberies people do? you don't think taking the life of a person invading your home and terrorizing you is justified?

first of all, I love the new avatar Jockboy. Bring on the pillow fight.

Back to topic, I don't think there's justified killing. Murder is murder. In dire situation, the villagers saw it as the only option even though they could have band together and did something against the guy.

Well...this is a bit tricky. The act of murder itself is not justified, ever. But if you see it from the motive, it is then justified.

The truth is there are lots of other ways to solve this case other than murder, but sometimes people are cornered so bad that they see no other options.

In the end, people see things from the motive, not from whether it's something right or wrong.
