I already said what I thought about Timberdork, let's talk about Madge and Britney:

They do have a lot in common:

-They're blond.
-They dance a lot.
-They lipsynch a lot.
-They have catchy songs.
-Sexuality is a big part of their act.
-They can't act.

BUT Madonna does have something that sets her appart and that Britney never had: A BRAIN. She's managed to be in the business for almost 30 years and be relevant while Spears has managed to destroy her short career in the last year.

Oh and Madge can sing live when she wants to.

I take it only beatlehead and I listened to, or cared about, all the other inductees.

The Dave Clark Five kick ass. I can see why the punk bands of the 70s loved their early lo-fi singles like "Bits and Pieces", whereas popster loved songs like "Because".

I never quite "got" Leonard Cohen, but I can appreciate what he does. He writes amazing songs.

And if "units sold" were the only thing necessary to get someone into the Hall, the Ventures should've been in eons ago. They're one of the biggest selling album bands ever. And they STILL play 200 shows a year, almost FIFTY years after their first hit!

Will Britney get in? Depends on how her story ends. But I'll tell you this much - at this stage of the game, Justin's got a much better shot at it than Britney.

I should also point out that people are voted in to the Hall of Fame for what they've done, not what they might do in the future. Speaking as objectively as I can, Britney has a good chunk of sales history, one killer single, and a handful of other good tracks to her credit. None of her biggest hits were written by her, she doesn't play an instrument, and her live shows are known more for "spectacle" than for musicianship.

Given all this, as things stand, it's extremely doubtful she'll get into the Hall. Right now, the closest parallel I can draw on from the past is Cher - singer only, not much in the way of songwriting, not know for having an amazing voice. Cher had quite a few more hits than Britney (and stretched her viable career for over three decades), she's not in the Hall, and I sort of doubt she'll be nominated.

Second, Madonna has more talent in her toenail clippings than Britney has in her whole body.

And Third, face it, Britney fans, BS has flamed out. She's done. She's too rich to go to any rehab except the fake Hollywood kind, where you get "clean" and talk about your regrets, and dive right back into the same lifestyle you had before you went in. She's not going to bottom out--not until she ODs or crashes her car, or does something so horrendous that even the very best lawyers can't keep her out of prison. She's in a death spiral, and it ends in only one place.

If someone intervenes in a radical way, she might be alive at the end of this decade. But she's already way behind Madonna, and she'll never catch up, not in a million years.

Similar assumptions were made of Madonna a few years into the start of her career, i also believe she recognised these comments and people in her speech at the induction into the hall of fame.

I believe Madonna was lucky to rise in a time where celebrity and fame were recognised with those who were powerful and awe inspiring in whatever they did. Nowadays fame is nothing, celebritiy is a disease and quite frankly Britney spears is proof of that.
I'm quite sure if Madonna began her career as an when Britney had she would have broken about the same time as Britney, as nowadays its alot harsher in society for the 'rich & famous'.

I enjoy both Britney and Madonna, Britney more so as i enjoy energy and the ability to dance in my music. Madonnas music is different in this aspect, however theres a few songs, mostly recent in which she almost has the energy Britney used to bring to her music and preformances. As not to step away from the gay stereotype in some form, damn Madonna is old y'all!

The Break the Ice video iz junk!! I actually liked the song but the video is an unorginal rehash of her Toxic video mixed with horrible anime imitations that barely move and are hideous to look at. And although she deserves to live, every insult she gets is spot on. She IS all that.

A friend of mine used to use this tactic a lot. His most common question was "So you think you can do better?"

Is that the bar? Is that all I should ask of musicians, of actors, of athletes? That they be better than me? I'm willing to bet 80% of people in the world are better at me at singing, and 90% are better at me at dancing. Does that mean all of them should be professional singers and dancers? Or I don't have to right to criticize anyone who makes their living doing the same? I fully EXPECT professional singers, dancers, actors, and athletes to be better than me. I friggin' DEMAND it. That's why I shell out the cash.

And for the record...

I am not a "hater". Not of Rhianna, anyway. Or even Britney Spears. If people want to listen to Rhianna or Britney or tennis balls in a clothes dryer, that's their call.

If anything, I'm a "hater" of you, Danugh. You and all your ilk. Those who apparently can't abide the fact that some people can have different tastes in music (or whatever) than them. Those who apparently have nothing better to do than pimp their favorite artists and songs, and divide the world into "true believers" and "haters". Those who see red and create drama whenever anyone dares to say "I'm not a fan".

I'm a huge Herbie Hancock fan. (You remember him - he's the asshole who stole the Album of the Year Grammy from the woman who really deserved it.) I've got forty or so albums by him, and listen to him quite a bit. When people ask me for a music recommendation, I often point them towards one of his albums.

But Herbie Hancock is not "my man". I don't hate people who don't like his music. I don't think those people are "haters" or "trying to bring him down". I don't pick fights with people who aren't jazz fans, or call them up after Herbie won the Grammy, bragging that he "proved the haters wrong".

I just listen to his music.
