Justin Timberlake...you Bitch

UGH Justin has every right to say that. Madonna was the desperate one who made out with Britney to boost her career. So sad. Justin did date a wannabe Madonna, a.k.a Britney Spears, who remembers that horrible rendition of like a virgin on mtv music awards. The horse spoke out of it's own mouth, and I am sorry Madonna is not much to blame.

>>>Actually, the real question is when is your album coming out?

A friend of mine used to use this tactic a lot. His most common question was "So you think you can do better?"

Is that the bar? Is that all I should ask of musicians, of actors, of athletes? That they be better than me? I'm willing to bet 80% of people in the world are better at me at singing, and 90% are better at me at dancing. Does that mean all of them should be professional singers and dancers? Or I don't have to right to criticize anyone who makes their living doing the same? I fully EXPECT professional singers, dancers, actors, and athletes to be better than me. I friggin' DEMAND it. That's why I shell out the cash.

And for the record...

I am not a "hater". Not of Rhianna, anyway. Or even Britney Spears. If people want to listen to Rhianna or Britney or tennis balls in a clothes dryer, that's their call.

If anything, I'm a "hater" of you, Danugh. You and all your ilk. Those who apparently can't abide the fact that some people can have different tastes in music (or whatever) than them. Those who apparently have nothing better to do than pimp their favorite artists and songs, and divide the world into "true believers" and "haters". Those who see red and create drama whenever anyone dares to say "I'm not a fan".

I'm a huge Herbie Hancock fan. (You remember him - he's the asshole who stole the Album of the Year Grammy from the woman who really deserved it.) I've got forty or so albums by him, and listen to him quite a bit. When people ask me for a music recommendation, I often point them towards one of his albums.

But Herbie Hancock is not "my man". I don't hate people who don't like his music. I don't think those people are "haters" or "trying to bring him down". I don't pick fights with people who aren't jazz fans, or call them up after Herbie won the Grammy, bragging that he "proved the haters wrong".

I just listen to his music.

Why can't you?

Lex

I must agree with you Lex. I just came to college in August, made "great" friends, only to realize this February that they are musical snobs. They like to advertise their "musical diversity" but yet criticize anything not to their liking. They often made fun of my music, and shoved their "acceptance" in my face. So that, among other reasons, led to my dissociation with them. I love my music, and most people don't always do the same. I just listen to it. I didn't expect them to love, or throw it in their faces. But in the end they glorified their own tastes and preached equality, but never came through. So I moved on.

And by the way, I am proud Herbie Hancock won. It shows that an artist not controlled by their label, or or completely mainstream/successful can still be a winner. That is what music is about. Putting out music you love and will love in the future. Not falling to outside pressures. Go Herbie, and go Lex.

I love how JT acts like he's got room to talk. I wonder how many blow jobs he's giving Timbaland for all those fresh beats.

How did Rihanna get into this?

I'm not a fanatic, but I like her music. And I do think she's talented and it is unfair to compare her to Britney. She's got the first thing you need to be a singer: To actually be able to sing.

I've seen her perform live and even though she doesn't move or dance much, she can actually sing and it sounds good. Something I give her props for, she chose the right path; to sing live even though she wouldn't dance much instead of putting on a big show and lipsynch her way to success.

Bottom line, as long as any singer sings live and sounds good, they're fine with me.

Actually she can dance.

When she first came out in 2005 she danced in concert, check this sexy clip out,

Chris must be loving alla dat.

^^I apologize, if this is off-topic, but why would Cher be considered for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

When I was 13, I bought her first hit record (on a 45rpm), "All I Really Want To Do."

I think I'm pretty familiar with her recordings

She's sung pop, standards, disco and techno, but I've never heard her sing a rock song in my life.

Have I missed some significant part of her career. When was she ever a rock singer?

Yeah, it's a bit off-topic, but I don't mind tackling it.

Your question revolves around a major issue confronting R&RHoF induction - where's the line? What constitutes "rock"? If it's a major part of popular music post-1955, should that be enough? Or must it have guitars, bass, and drums?

Apparently, the Hall folks are leaning towards the former. Gamble & Huff made it in this year, and they certainly aren't rock. I mean, "For the Love of Money" certainly ROCKS, but it ain't rock.

Likewise, several Motowners are in, and most notably, Madonna found herself in this year. I'd argue that although Cher isn't much of a "rocker", she's more so than Madonna was. (Remember Allman & Woman? :D) So why was Madonna inducted? I'm not objecting here - just trying to figure out the qualifications. Was it because of her sales history? So many albums sold, so many hit singles? Was it her "image", her "makeovers", her ability to sustain a career in a genre not known for such? Because whatever it is, Cher could probably claim the same. Perhaps not to the degree and/or success rate that Madonna did, but she's certainly in the ballpark.
