Kath and Kim

The reason Kath and Kim was so successful and entertaining here is that it's uniquely Australian. I can't quite wrap my head around how they're going to pull this off in the U.S. #-o

How on earth will the Yanks emulate moments like this ....

Like this, I suppose ....

People had similar speculations with The Office being imported from the UK, and it turned out to a hit (and a funny one at that). I like the two leads for US Kath & Kim, so I think it's a step in the right direction.

all the commercials i ahve seen for it have been impressive

The thing bugging me is the casting of Kim. The joke is that Kim *thinks* she's this hot woman that no man could resist when it's pretty far from the truth but Selma Blair is actually hot :\

I just watched the first episode on ON Demand.....it was alright....I'll def watch again....i never saw the Australian version of it so I really have nothing to compare it too....

There have been a few shows they've imported and have been a hit, but from what I can tell, alot weren't.

That was some fucking cocktail.

I've never seen the original but I watched the first US episode last night. I expected to hate it based on all the reviews I've read and the weird commercials. But to my surprise I actually really liked it.
I think Selma Blair is really funny.

it is funny, not super funny, the fourth best NBC comedy that night but that is still pretty good lol

Sorry Guys... i have to agree.. i have watched the Aussie version from start to finish and LOVED it! ... i was quite excited about watching the US version to see how it would go.. but after watching the first episode.. ( not even all the way through) , i was very dissapointed.. its lost its charm that the aussie one had in bucket loads..

I think if you did not watch the Aussie version then you would prob like the US version.

The cross over from Aussie to US in this case def does not work very well .

^ agreed, american version simply doesnt stack up, unless there is some subtle american humour i am not getting. Aussie version 100% better. Where was the syllable elongation!!!

I too watched the US version, horrible. Either i've completely lost my sense of humour or that just wasn't funny. There were some pauses in between as though they were expecting a laugh from the audience but I just wasn't getting it.

Maybe I don't understand American humour? :S Give me family guy and repeats of The Simpsons anytime and i'll be more likely to laugh. :S

I have to agree, I found the characters annoying and stupid rather than funny.
I would like to have seen the Aussie version perhaps the writers crested more interesting characters.
I deleted it from my DVR auto record, although I might give it one more try.

The pauses are also known as the "awkward silence." The US Office also uses it. I think its funny, and I found US K&K pretty decent. I guess it really is an American thing (or rather, just a subjective thing).

Maybe it's the cultural difference? I watched the youtube vids of the Aussie version and I didn't get many of the jokes...and they're speaking the same language!

I think the American version is good. But I'm the type who likes Strangers with Candy so it may also be my sense of humor.

Maybe, but i don't think it worked in Kath and Kim (probably because the silences weren't awkward, just irritating.) What i like about the original version of the show is its fast pace and quickness.
