Katharine McPhee Signs With Verve

Former "American Idol" star Katharine McPhee has signed a new deal with Verve, Billboard.com can reveal. The artist is recording her label debut, due before the end of the year.

McPhee released a lone self-titled album for RCA in late 2006 (wrong! January 2007), which has sold 375,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Since then she's dabbled in acting, including a role in the 2008 comedy "The House Bunny."

"The album she is working on will show many new sides to her talents as an interpreter and a songwriter, and show everyone just how special she is," Verve Music Group president/CEO Bruce Resnikoff says.

Good for her. She was my favorite from season 5. It totally should have been her and Daughtry in the finale...and considering the fact that it was actually Taylor Hicks she had to go up against, she completely got fucked over when she lost. I bought her first album and it was decent. It had some strong songs on it. She certainly deserved to have been more successful with it. I hope she fares better with the new record label and album and can get a decent hit or two out of the deal.

Love this girl! She had a pretty good cd with two songs that I think are quite amazing (Everywhere I Go and Neglected) and a few other good songs. Certainly needed more promotion. Hopefully, she gets it.

I love Kat! Cannot WAIT for the next album! I LOVED 'Better Off Alone' off the first CD. Probly my fave from that album.

I love her. She was also funny in The House Bunny and she has a new movie coming up with that guy from House.

I met her at the AI concert in Fort Lauderdale three years ago, very sweet girl, she had on a leg cast and was still very approachable and nice.

Her debut album had great material, but her team and the label didn't know what to do with her.

this girl is amazing! i love her ever since i heard her improv that god bless the child in the AI auditions,i HATE american idol but i watched the whole season rooting for her,and she just keeps getting better and better,my favorite from her album is home,everyone says it's a christina's rip-off but who cares XD

I wasn't a fan of hers during the actual show but once upon a time I was bored and watched some Idol performances and saw quite a few of her's and started to like her. She has a good voice and I loved her 'Over the Rainbow' and 'I Have Nothing' performances.

I also agree that she's the hottest girl that has been on Idol but Casey Carlson may take the spot. Atleast for me.

Me too. I thought they were way too harsh on her for the "I Have Nothing" performance. And she was SO much more deserving than the 40 year old who won that season.

Her talents are best served doing the great standards though. If you haven't seen it, check this out, it's her best performance:

I've never seen that one until now. I add that to my list of favorites from her.

She totally should have won over Taylor. He's by far the worst Idol winner, IMO.

I was a Daughtry fan so I never gave anyone else a chance and stopped watching Season 5 after his elimination. My anger still carried on to Season 6 cause I skipped the whole season. But my anger settled by season 7.

I've seen a few videos of Melinda, she had a great voice. Lakisha Jones was good based off videos I've seen, too. Especially her 'And I am Telling You...' performance.
Didn't really see enough Jordin or Blake to form an opinion but based off their albums, not impressed.

Kat just keeps going and going. I'm glad she's stepped from under the wing of TPTB and Idol, because they are more miss than hit when it comes to the finalists careers.
