Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

Kelly Clarkson will make history on this week's Billboard Hot 100 with the largest leap to No. 1 in the chart's 50-year history.

Her new single, "My Life Would Suck Without You," is set to rocket 97-1 after selling 280,000 digital downloads in its first week of availability. The song is also faring well at radio, jumping 58-38 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart and 27-18 on the Mainstream Top 40 list.

"My Life Would Suck Without You" introduces Clarkson's March 17 RCA album "All I Ever Wanted." This is the second time the artist has set the record for largest jump toto No. 1. She took her "American Idol" victory song, "A Moment Like This," 52-1 on the chart dated October 5, 2002.

That mark lasted nearly five years until Maroon 5 soared 64-1 with "Makes Me Wonder" in May 2007 and had been broken four more times since, most recently by Britney Spears' "Womanizer" (96-1).

"My Life Would Suck Without You" is Clarkson's first No. 1 since her debut single, though she has placed six other songs in the top 10 during this time, including the No. 2-peaking "Since U Been Gone" in April 2005.

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

woohoo!!! and she look AMAZING in the video for the song!

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

Must be bittersweet for her, as the message of this is "less Kelly, more success!" I still can't get over how desperate she comes across this era. I get being a puppet is her only resort considering she can't pull off anything else, but still.

The #1 is the big deal, not the record. It's not really that amazing nowadays. When a hit song is released to iTunes, it makes a big jump the next week on the Hot 100. They just have to pick the right timing. I mean, Britney just made that record a few months ago... it will be broken again in the not-so-distant future. Someone's single will shoot up from #100 to #1 and then it will only be matched again and again.

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

Well nice 4 her... i m not a huge fan of her new song !! but it's still very cool for her

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

I love her to death but I don't really like that single. I feel like it's a step back from her last album and I blame the powers that be at the record label.

It sounds like some sort of sick Clive Davis demanded apology

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

I hate kelly for stealing the record from britney. that bitch..

i really dont think the song is that good...its very generic..like a leftover from a Pink album..

Please Pink's album could run circles around most singers out there now including Brittney.

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

LoL, did Kelly really steal this song from Britney? 'Cause I can't imagine Britney singing it whatsoever.

As for Pink, she's my goddess. :)

I think he meant that Kelly broke Brittney's record not that brittney intended to do this song.

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

I hate that people keep saying this song sucks because it's so pop and and it's such a step back for her....umm...I'm pretty sure you're most likely the same people that were hating on "My December" saying go back to pop..and now that she has she's a sell out and she's horrible...please...Kelly is great and I have nothing but faith that this album will be great.

PS~Pink sucks

I like Pink as an artist, but she is always attacking other artist, which makes her seem like a hater.

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

^Yeah, I agree with that. She comes off as a jealous bitch sometimes. She's always attacking people that are much more successful than her.

But great for Kelly. She's an amazing talent.

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

Congrats to kelly:D

I wasn't really feeling the song at first but the video helped me warm up to it. I actually really enjoyed her last album, "Sober" is still my favorite song of hers.

I don't see that at all. Pink makes relative political statements about our society and the many many ways it's screwed up (often with regards to our treatment of women). One of which is our obsession with celebrity. For instance in "Don't Let Me Get Me." which contains lyrics like "Tired of being compared to damn Brittney Spears. She's so pretty. That just aint' me." She's no 'hating' on anyone she's pointing out the pressure on women in contemporary American society to maintain an unhealthy body image

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single

Guess you never heard of Carrie Underwood, who statistically, is the most successful Idol.

That's rather vague. What do you mean by "statistically"

Most gross sales? Average sales? Sales over time? Most number one hits? Longest time spent at number one? Most award nominations? etc....

You can't statistically quantify "success." It's the type of word that's always up to debate.

Re: Kelly Clarkson breaks records with new single
