"The Wedding Ringer" star Kevin Hart says he won't play a gay character because of what "people are going to think" if he were to take on such a role.

"I can't [play a gay character] because I don't think I'm really going to dive into that role 100 percent, because of the insecurities about myself trying to play that part," the 35-year-old comedian told hosts of the Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 in an interview, as TMZ reports. "What I think people are going to think while I'm trying to do this is going to stop me from playing that part the way I'm supposed to."

The horror! How dare anyone impede the work of a true artist! :rotflmao:

I had to Google him. From what I saw of the Wedding Ringer trailers, the guy couldn't even play a wedding ringer. I don't think he has to worry about a career.

Perhaps he should look up the word 'acting' in a dictionary.

^ Same, although I think I recognise his face.

Never heard of the Wedding Ringer and I stay fairly up to date with films - I imagine it will disappear without a trace.

Oh well he'll be no loss in the Celebrity section.

It seems to rank right up there with Adam Sandler movies. You know, stupid comedy, like setting people on fire.

He's a stand-up comic turned actor. And he's hugely popular and probably set for life.

Anyways, Kevin Hart is a joke.. and not in a good way. I don't think anyone takes what he has to say seriously. (or at least I hope not).

I think we should make a whole bunch of Kevin Hart fakes to illustrate exactly what people are going to think. That way he could get used to the idea.

Ahh, at least he owns his own insecurities and unprofessionalism.

Too bad, really. He could be in the same company as Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Benedict Cumberbatch, Heath Ledger, Jake G(can's spell the rest of his name), Daniel Radcliffe, Daniel Day Lewis, and many, many others.

^Which is what I don't understand, none of these actors for me have lost their credibility or I don't think of them differently because of their roles. The people who would think of you differently because of playing a role as a homosexual aren't people who are worth your time and are popcorn flick junkies who are interested in the next Transformers movie more than anything else.

That's how he makes his money.

He's a stand up comedian not an actor and he's not a bad guy---he wants to become an actor but that's yet to be seen if he can pull it off---he's super short and somewhat insecure. Funny my gaydar used to go off when I first saw him---but doubt if he is.

Perhaps he thinks his bro's will lose respect for him, either way he's a twat.

The best thing about Kevin Hart are the Internet memes his faces create. Other than that... eh. But kudos to him on the self-awareness and admitting that it's his insecurities that would keep him from taking on such roles and nothing else. I can actually respect that.

In the end, I'm less concerned with why a straight actor wouldn't play a gay character and more concerned with why openly gay actors aren't cast as much for roles gay or straight. There are no shortage of gay actors who would love the opportunities Hart has. Let's get them some roles.

I think he if funny..sometimes. He had his own show on that I watched...but I watched it for Boris Kodjoe actually....

I can see why he would be insecure about it....he probably knows why too....

I don't care much....I would be more interested to find out why some gay actors who aren't out won't play a gay character...
