Keystone Vote Falls Short in Senate

Fortunately tracking by itself is bringing us close to energy independence even with Obama's mindless obstructionism. Why do the liberals prefer tracking over the pipeline?

Because Warren Buffett just bought BNSF.

This is a complicated issue ---I for one don't give a shit if they build the pipeline---this is a great deal for Canada---not a great deal for the bread basket of the country if there is an oil spill and the water table is compromised---but like I said --if Nebraska doesn't care why should I? The BP oil leak happened when Bush and oil billionaires deregulated everything---if the pipeline gets built and in 10 years something horrible happens--will not be in my back yard---and it;s not like anyone will give a shit that the gop congress made this happen. That's america for you.

I agree. When a spill happens, no one is going to blame the 113th congress. The big oil companies will all point their fingers at each other, and the federal and local governments will clean up the spill, at taxpayer expense.

The Keystone pipeline is more corporate welfare. It will do nothing to help America achieve energy independence, it will contribute to global warming, and it threatens the environment. If the Canadians want it so badly, they can build it through their own country.

Hey Hey- Good Bye- Keystone.

Republicans will need 15 Democrats to break a veto, do you really think Democrats will cave now and set themselves up to be fools in 2016?

Also loved how Harry Reid let senator warren read the vote. Gop be asking themselves...what do we do now?

That is actually more likely than you think, Keystone is considered one of the subjects that the Congress can find enough bipartisan support on to be passed. Considering it failed under this Congress by just one vote, makes it highly likely that the next Congress can pass it.

I'd honestly rather it fail.

Canada needs other markets than just being tied to the US.

............Yes. Go figure. :##:

Obama's mindless obstructionism.

Is there any transgression of which you haven't accused President Obama?

Pssst. Let me add one: Barry picks his nose... and eats the boogers. He learned that while growing up in Kenya.* :D

Do you have anything constructive to add to [STRIKE]the[/STRIKE] any discussion?

*This is sarcasm.

Reality check:
One of the reasons that gasoline prices have dropped is because the U.S. is exporting more oil than ever in spite of not having the Keystone Pipeline operational. Sorry, Ben (not).

What's "tracking"? Do you mean Fracking? If so, no intelligent person prefers fracking. Both fracking and this boondoggle of a pipeline are environmental nightmares that the corporations won't clean up after.

Good discussion of the Keystone XL pipeline:

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/11/keystone-pipeline-is-a-canard-113102.html

The idea is already outdated. Tar sands oil is so expensive to produce that it may never be cost-effective to bother with, especially given a near future of falling energy prices. The amount of gasoline which would be refined from the oil for domestic consumption would be tiny, so the pipeline would not contribute to American energy independence. American and European oil consumption has been falling steadily for a long time, and this is sure to continue, further eroding the (already questionable) usefulness of the project.

The market has already made Keystone obsolete. Keystone will not help America achieve energy independence. It poses a significant risk to the environment and would add to global warming. Keystone is a non-solution to a problem that does not exist.

Grow up. We are going to use petroleum in huge amount for the foreseeable future.

That doesn't mean that it makes sense for America to pay Canadians to squeeze oil from tar - so they can sell it to somebody else.

If this were a project to squeeze oil from soybeans instead of tar, I rather expect you would be screaming bloody murder. That would be environmentally conscious and would actually help America become energy independent.

But you Republicans don't want what's good for America. You want what's good for the Koch brothers.

Energy and independence are good for America. It is only liberals who believe that airplanes and autos can run on moonbeams and the wings of butterflys.

And what are we supposed to do when oil runs out? In fact there are plenty of alternatives. I guess you won't be around so you don't have to worry about it. Gee that's real responsible.

The oil will not be running out anytime soon as the tar sands excellently illustrates, there are significant oil deposits still in the world that are not tapped because it was too expensive to make it worth while. We may be past 'peak oil' but the downward slope is longer than most doomsayers predict. There are plenty of alternatives available such as biofuels that can and will start to pick up the slack once the price rises high enough to make them worthwhile.
