Hi guys, I have a question. I recently sort of made out with this person, basically with both us touching each other down there, jerking each other off, laying on top of each other. No oral sex, rimming, or intercourse. We also kissed on the mouth, but very quickly, almost like a social kiss, but I can feel his tongue, but was very quick as well. However, later that day, I noticed I have a very small canker sore in my mouth. The person had told me that he is HIV negative. Should I be alarmed about the transmission of HIV or anything like that?

Can you get HIV from kissing?

Arrrr!
Please!

If you are old enough to go out and make out with a guy, if you are old enough to be on this website, you should at least have a BASIC understanding about STDs and their transmission.
Please read it up. There are a few stickies on top of this forum with more information.

And no, it's almost impossible to get HIV from kissing with someone who isn't bleeding. And NO a canker sore is no sign of HIV.

What do you mean by bleeding, blood pouring out of the mouth? What if there is a cut in the person's mouth somewhere and you can't see it. What would that do for the transmission of HIV?

Sorry if the questions sound stupid, but I didn't find any of the stickers that would answer specifically to these questions.

A cut is more likely a good entrance point for HIV, a cut in the mouth never bleeds long. So it had to happen very very recently. And then still there needs to be an open wound in your mouth as well. Saliva does not transmit HIV. Kissing is a very very low-risk activity. As far as I know there is no record of HIV ever being transmitted by a kiss.

Also I am not sure if you actually did read the sticky. Your question is answered in the thread linked there:

One more question, does a sore (canker sore) in your mouth counts as an open wound. What if you're kissing someone who has a canker sore, or you had a canker sore, would that transmit any diseases.

yes it does count as an open wound. but it's more of an entry for infection than causing infections. you shouldn't give oral sex while you have one.

But my previous question was is kissing (while having sores) puts you at risk for diseases?

as i said, the increase the risk. but since without blood or semen the hiv risk from kissing is almost non-existent there is not much to increase.
you can get different diseases from kissing someone, no matter if he has canker sores or not. hiv shouldn't be your concern in this regard. please have a look at the stickies!

ease up .. you will be fine. and now inform yourself so that you can enjoy sex the next time ..
