Kitchen Knives

Oh wow...I found a web site where I can get the 14 piece Wusthof set ($199.95) and get a free Wusthof sharpener ($20-25 value) and Wusthof Kitchen Prep Set ($90 value) and free shipping. I'm going to get that one. :D

Dang...I think that is a good deal!

Thanks for the help everyone! (*8*)

Now I need to get a simple to use coffee make for my mom. She does not want a complicated one and she wants it to heat up fast....so I think smaller is probably better for her.

I will probably get this zojirushi one. :)

As I have been the stand-in chef for a couple of months I should really know about knives.

But I have been using my grandmother's knives ever since she died, over 30yrs ago. It is the most wonderful knife and cuts better than any of all the fancy ones that past cooks have insisted on buying. I think she bought it at Woolworths.

Her table spoon has also followed me around the world. I can't cook without as Delia's recipes all require one. ;)

As for not needing sharp knives because you're a vegetarian, I think that's a bad fallacy. Not only does a sharp knife help with tubers and celery (try celery ONCE with a dull knife!), but also allows you more choices for dinner (instead of having to boil broccoli, for example, you can steam it. They also allow you a more accurate slicing and to chop veggies finer.

If it helps...

I like the fact that you couldn't cut shit with my kitchen knives, just in case I ever got the urge to use one when i'm drunk.

I think a professional chef would tell you that the sharper the knife, the less likely you are to cut yourself. Dull knives are more likely to slip and require more effort on your part to cut food.
Indeed - and to be fair, the knives aren't normally the problem - its the person using them! :D (no disrespect intended!)

I'd think that dull knives would be more dangerous than sharp ones. If you try to cut something with a dull knive it's more likely it's going to slip and then you'll get cut. Sharp's the way to, in my opinion.
