Kanye West Growls Through La Roux’s “In For The Kill” Remix

Elly Jackson and Kanye West share a moment on set of the video for La Roux’s new single “In For The Kill”, and EW Music Mix got their hands on the remix of the song, featuring an amplified beat and West dropping a verse. (This is certainly a case of Kanye and Elly scratching one another’s backs, as La Roux will guest on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.) Hear the tweaked tune below and tell us if it’s as good as what we get from ‘Ye every G.O.O.D. Friday.

We’re digging the extra drum beats added to the original track, but we are really not feeling Kanye’s contribution to this mix. There’s an uncomfortable amount of grunting and weird noises coming from the rapper, and his verses just feel rushed and sloppier than what we know he’s capable of.

Could Kanye actually be out of rhymes? We certainly wouldn’t blame him for using all his best bon mots for his album, as well as the eight (and counting!) free tracks he’s released the past few months.

La Roux Prepping Nile Rodgers Inspired Second Album‎

UK synth-pop duo La Roux will release their second album in May or June, according to Mojo.

From a piece in the magazine’s new issue, the duo of Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid – who signed to Polydor for the release of their last album in 2008, following the success of single ‘Quicksand’ – reveal that the new album is being recorded in a converted barn in Devon, which Jackson describes as having “its own climate. Surrounded by geese and otters.”

As far as how the album’s likely to sound, it’s apparently heavily synth-based, with the pair “finally getting to grips” with a Roland Jupiter-8 that features prominently, and is particularly inspired by Chic’s Nile Rodgers – now working with Daft Punk – and “rare disco”. A title for the record hasn’t been decided yet, but the pair are looking for one that doesn’t “make [them] sound like pretentious wankers.”

I heard they were going to do Coachella, but had to drop out. Too bad.

I am excited to hear they are making new music though.

The U.K. singer returns with a bold new look and a thrilling new sound on "Trouble in Paradise."

As she glides into an East London photo studio, the first thing you notice about Elly Jackson, better-known as British electro-pop artist La Roux, is invariably her radiant auburn hair and its new style.

Shorn of the gravity-defying, Ed Grimley-like quiff -- or "iced gem," as she jokingly calls it -- that the singer (whose stage name is mangled French for "red-haired one") wore at the time of her 2009 breakthrough, Jackson's hair has been cropped into an equally eye-catching relaxed wave, dyed multiple shades of vibrant red.

After voice issues and fatigue prompted the 26-year-old to spend the last three years mostly out of the public eye (more on that later), it makes for a startling, semi-androgynous reintroduction that, complemented by her porcelain complexion and glass-cutting cheekbones, evokes a cross between a young Tilda Swinton and David Bowie circa "The Man Who Fell to Earth."
