As far as her looks are concerned, I think she's doing a great job with what she's got. Sure, maybe she doesn't have the mainstream "nordic" symetry by which many people judge "beauty", but there's kind of an "AND what?" quality to it. I like that.

I don't always like the way she presents herself in interviews, and I'm not really into the "luxe life" thing, but I understand why she appeals to a lot of people who may feel "ugly", too, and have dreams a lot of people think they don't deserve to have. Like, "Yeah, my big ol' schnozz, no-chin-havin', big-assed, may-be-a-tranny self is gonna dress the way that moves me and do my music and get rich and have a really good time. AND WHAT?"

Maybe I'm projecting, but I just hate hearing people get cut down just because they look different. It seems like it's about so much more than that.

Thats all good and everything. But the thing is she has already had 2 nose jobs and lip fillers. So its not as if even she was proud of the way she looked. Just saying......

Her being proud of how she looks isn't really what I was getting at. More like, doing the best she can with what she's got. Right now.

I mean, I was fat in highschool. I always wanted to be a cheerleader because I loved sports and the atmosphere around games, but had no athletic capacity to speak of. I decided to brave the possible dirision from others to do what I wanted to do. When I started cheering, I did realize that being in better shape would make me even better at it, so I lost weight. It wasn't about me saying, HEY, the fact that I'm fat is AWESOME, and my goal is to be a fat cheerleader! It was that I didn't want to wait until I was thin to do what I wanted to do, even though some people probably thought I had no right to put on a uniform at my size.

She's got music to share. She's doing it NOW, because what's most important to her is sharing that music, not necessarily how she looks while doing it. If she saw herself on camera or on stage and decided she'd have more confidence in sharing her music if she plumped up her lips a little or made her nose a little more proportional, so be it. She's an entertainer. They'll do whatever it takes to make it easier to show their stuff.

I guess I just don't understand the level of malevolence about her looks. If you don't like her music, that's one thing, but who cares what she looks like? If you hate her music, but she was "pretty", would that make her music better?

Great points and well written. Unfortunately, Darkflower, there are a lot of men who are very critical of women's physical appearances in the music business. I've personally talked to some men who work in the business and they are harsh on females; females' looks matter just as much, if not more than the talent. Ideally, it shouldn't be that way, but...

Right now I have an image of her in my head, in some outrageous garment, sitting on top of a pile of money and looking down her prodigious nose at all those mysoginistic suits and saying, "Suck it, bitches!" lol "I may be ugly, but I'm ugly on top of a big wad of cash, millions of people sweat to my art on dancefloors all over the world, and I'm living my dreams.
