Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

I can't believe I'm saying this but the album cover is really growing on me. I do love how funny it would be to see it in the pop section. Stands out among everyone for it's uniqueness and ridiculousness. I also like it's multiple meanings.

That being said, I would prefer another cover any day.

What the fuck is wrong with her eye! haha

A bunch of reviews I found:

a. USMagazine.com : 4 / 5
Lady Gaga's game-changing debut, 2008's The Fame, and its hit-filled add-on, The Fame Monster, ruled. But the phenom's second LP is the one she was born to record. Wildly audacious and arresting (imagine Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and Madonna poured into a sonic blender!), it's equal parts stadium-worthy epic anthems like "Hair" and convention-defying dance-pop. And her hard-core little monsters will eat up the studio version of her live fave "You and I.

b. NME : 8 / 10
Rather than an exercise in hype, what ‘Born This Way’ really is an exercise in the pushing of everything to its ultimate degree. And for all the black, white and silver, it passes that test with flying colours.

c. BBC Music :
Gaga could have filled this album with guest slots from hip names and phoned-in cameos from rent-a-rapper types. But there’s none of that.
It’s a storming collection of high-concept pop brilliance designed to soundtrack every preposterously tremendous Gaga moment for the next 18 months.
Enjoy someone actually putting a bit of effort and imagination back into pop, and keep the sneering and lazy comparisons in check. Not that they can take anything away from what is, simply, a marvellous record.
She’s so far above her chart contemporaries that she’s created her own orbit, around her own world.

d.PopSpecs
PRETTY FUCKING AMAZING.
Lady Gaga has managed to produce her strongest body of work to date. An epic album which will undoubtably sell by the bucketload and cement her position as pop’s most fascinating figurehead.

e.MTV
Lady Gaga's Born This Way Album Is Everything To Everyone
Gaga proves that she is one of the most multifaceted pop stars on the planet. She takes on roughly 750 different personas on the album — throughout the course of 14 songs, she professes to be "a warrior queen," "a soldier," "a winner" (and, later on, "a loser"), "a selfish punk," "a bad kid" and "a degenerate young rebel" (and proud of it), to name just a few. She is also a messiah, an idol, a down-and-dirty homegirl, a lonely girlfriend, a mother, a martyr, a prostitute and a mother superior. Shoot, she even speaks German and Spanish.
And believe it or not, it all works. This is definitely a long player (the shortest song clocks in at a hair under four minutes), but an album this full of songs and ideas should take all the space (and time) it needs. It is epic. It is excellent. It is exactly the kind of album you'd expect the hugest pop star on the planet to make.
But above all, Born This Way succeeds because it is almost always interesting.

f. About.com 5 / 5
She brazenly welds disco to metal guitars embracing all of her musical influences in a mad clash of styles that works more often than not. Born This Way begins and ends with near perfection.

g. Slant Magazine 4 / 5
There's nothing small about this album, and Gaga sings the shit out of every single track. In many ways, Born This Way is akin to The Killers' sophomore effort, Sam's Town: bloated, self-important, proudly American, an exercise in extraordinary excess" and concluding with the sentiment that She's indeed on the edge of glory—that is, she isn't quite there yet, but it's fun, if infuriating at times, to watch her try so devotedly

h.PopJustice 9 / 10
What an extraordinary album

i.The Guardian 4 / 5
Lady Gaga's relentless, shameless, sledgehammer pop nearly always hits the spot – if you ignore the cheesy saxophones.
Lady Gaga can be the most exciting, confounding and mind-bogglingly creative artist on planet pop while still sounding like an early-90s Tampax advert.

j. MIsforMusic 5/5
This is another anthem packed album that only Gaga can deliver, she’s avoided the pitfalls of the ‘second album’, choosing not to be overly confident. Instead she has delved further and has pulled out these iconic tracks that will stay forever with a generation that have welcomed Gaga into their hearts as an iconic, creative figure that only comes every 20 years or so.

k.Telegraph 4/4
Gaga goes over the top and keeps on going: exhilarating, exhausting blockbuster entertainment

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Hm. All the sites that were streaming it seem to have stopped. I'm not going to download it though, I'm waited till Monday to buy it. I wouldn't mind listening a little more until then though..

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Ok I officially love Heavy Metal Lover!

And on another note, does anyone know when The Edge of Glory video will be coming out?

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

I love it.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

She's on the SNL finale tomorrow night with Justin Timberlake. I'm sure they will do a duet. This should be interesting.

I read an article about her fans lining up way ahead of time to try and get tickets to that, it should be great! I really hope she does The Edge of Glory.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

"Born this Way" - the album - is so ahead of it's time, so totally current and so anchored in the past that it will be fascinating to see what the world makes of it. Frankly, to hear anyone throw out vocal and musical references to Jim Morrison, Journey, Blondie, Madonna, Kraftwerk, Bruce Springsteen, The Beastie Boys, Abba, and, yes, Rosemary Clooney, with such vision, has my undying love! I think it's stunning!

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

No idea. Maybe someone else can chime in.

I would love for her to make one.

And thanks. :-)

Laurieann Gibson mentioned they're working on "The Edge of Glory" music video.

I'm only quoting myself to say that I did not mean to put  at the top of that post. !oops!

Isn't it fucking awesome? lol

It's amazing! I've been listening to it all day, I'm kind of afraid I'm gonna over do it, as I tend to do with songs that I love. But I just can't help myself. :p

I read that she's picked a director for it so that means there should be one coming sometime soon! I just don't know when.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Do any of you guys know where I can listen to some of her other songs? I've been abusing the repeat button on Heavy Metal Lover and I don't want to get tired of it.

I think Marry The Night is on youtube. I know it's on farmville... Which I think was a strange promo tool.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

I'm visiting my Uncle, who happens to have HBO, so I'm gonna record and watch her special that i missed a few weeks ago. I'm excited. :-)

SNL tonight.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

I just got Born This Way today... :) Thanks to Amazon pre-order. They were shipping it out on friday, and I was supposed to get it on monday... but since they shipped it out from LA... I got it today. :D My friends are furious. Loving it :D

So jealous. :grrr:

And fantastic reviews :) Britney can move out of the way... once again... overshadowed once again by the real star.

Ok, I don't understand this. I've made it abundantly clear on this thread how crazy I am over GaGa. But since when does loving GaGa=hating Britney? I don't understand the mentality. I love pop in general and liking one artist doesn't align me "against" others... I love Britney too. I don't see it as a competition. I get tons of music I love from all kinds of different artists and that's what I care about, not some ridiculous, nonexistent war over dominance.

I agree, I love both

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

I'm sorry guys, but Born This Way sounds like a hot mess.

All of the songs sound too chaotic and uncohesive. And her voice doesn't sound too good either.

The only songs I can stomach so far are Born This Way, You And I, and maybe Judas and Edge of Glory and none are in the running with her earlier work.

It saddens me because everyone I know knows I'm a big fan of hers. I like that she took a risk but she plunged off the edge this time.
Agreed. It's not good when you can sort through an album and say, "Hmm, this song sounds like it belongs to this artist, that song sounds like it belongs to that artist, this song sounds exactly like one that she's already sung before..." etc.

She has no musical identity and that's an issue, especially when she's professing to be so avant-garde and groundbreaking. Say what you will about Britney/Beyonce/Rihanna/Ke$ha, but at least they know what they're doing. Gaga is just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. "Hmm, nobody liked this second single... Guess I better rush out two more before the album is even released!" Not good.
