Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Don't waste your time with these frustrated Britney and Madonna fans, Josh. Gaga will be around for years to come, and that will be punishment enough.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

I've been out of town for three weeks, so I'm a little late to the party...

Downloaded the album 5/23 and haven't stopped listening yet. Boners.

Bought the limited edition vinyl that day as well.

While shopping today, I bought three more copies. I can't remember the last time I bought a CD, much less three - one for my car because the iPod doesn't sound as good, one for my roommate, and one for my friend. But they don't know I bought them yet nor were they expecting it. :)

This album is amazing.

Government Hooker. Scheibe. Heavy Metal Lover. You and I.

God damn she can write some catchy and awesome music!

OK that is all for now. More to follow.

(haven't gone back in the thread yet, but if anyone missed "Lady GaGa: Inside the Outside" on MTV, I'm sorry. That was a very frank and awesome interview she gave!)

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

^^^ Declining? Tell me, when was the last time a pop record sold 1,000,000 copies in it's first week? And that's without getting into how Born This Way (the album) goes way beyond mainstream pop.

Sure, she's a very polarizing artist but that doesn't mean her career is declining. Saying it is is just plain ridiculous when she had first week sales of over 1,000,000 copies. In fact, it's a even greater achievement considering how polarizing she is and how pop albums sales are today and have been for some years now.

When you say her career peaked you are just as right as people who called her a one hit wonder with Just Dance. Or that called Bad Romance her peak, which in some ways still is, but Born This Way (the song) is arguably a new peak in many ways, not just sales wise.

In case anyone feels the incredibly pathetic need to bring up Taylor sales again, let me remind you that comparing pop sales to country sales in the US is plain dumb. But if by doing so you feel better about your own flawed opinion, go for it.

...and her fan base. Does she need anything else to keep kicking some ass? Doubt it.

If you had told me this before The Edge Of Glory I could have agreed with you when you say Born This Way's (both the single and album) success is all promotion. But then the little but great, barely promoted on Twitter, song came and landed #3 in the hot 100, and proved how she's still got it

It doesnt matter what her sales are, cause she was PUSHED BEYOND BELIEF DOWN PPULS THROATS so her fanbase naturally grew

And that fanbase will support regardless of her material
if she records a 3 minute low quality song witha computer microphone and send it to itunes....It will be in the top ten JUST CAUSE OF HER Name and fanbase alone....

But Despite the dedicated fanbase she has now

BTW clearly was geared to the Gay community which even further spiraled the fanbase

Cause When Judas was released it had a quick peak and slid down the charts

and its a much better song than BTW but she wanted that gay support along with her reg fanbase and she got it

and besides if she truly was not declining she would be able to do what Britney Spears does which is release a single and go to bed and still have good opening numbers and big single sales

With gaga

They needed symbolic egg hatching
Deals with best buy to get it for free
Direct gay community support
99 cent album and free album & single deals (that counted as a sale)

WHEN all that was over her second week sales plumeted

If she was so DYNAMIC and as big as they claim

She wouldnt even have to do anything to get the same numbers

with all due respect, you clearly have no idea of what you're saying -____-

first of all, her regular fanbase IS the gay community...so idk what you're saying how she tried to influence the gay community. BTW (song) didn't make any of them say, "hey, wow, she's great, i'm a fan." no, EVERYone knew the bitch before BTW. so saying she only released it to get the gay community's support is plain moronic.... and plus, aren't you as an artist supposed to get your songs known to everyone?? yeah, anyway.

but seriously. you're critiquing her for promoting her work....that's really honestly the dumbest thing ever. >.< it's her job to promote. it shows she has initiative and desire to do well. is that...wrong? she is still very much active in her career, unlike britney, who put no effort into promotion. and guess what? her sales show it, when BTW sells roughly 6 times as much in two weeks as FF has in months. it's pathetic. so i really can't believe you're attacking her because she's doing her job to promote her work. that's such an idiotic thing to say. lmao

best buy didn't give the album away for freee.... well, they did when people bought smartphones; but those sales weren't counted. nice try though :)
and the amazon 99 cents deal counted for 440,000 out of the 1.1 million she sold. so again--nice try.

lastly, it's PERFECTLY common for second week sales to fall drastically. taylor swift's did by 69%. and though it seems gaga's did by so much more (89%), it would be far less had not the amazon 99 cents deal counted. but seriously, who the fuck buys an album after release?? :P

anyway, i just wanted to point out how wrong you were about everything you said. you're so obviously a biased gaga-hater. which is ok. but when you try and sound educated, know your facts.

:)

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Here's a list of the 17 albums that debuted with more than a million in sales the first week, and how much they sold the second week.

1 No Strings Attached – N Sync 811,298
2 Eminem Show – Eminem 808,708
3 Marshall Mathers – Eminem 793,713
4 The Massacre – 50 Cent 770,887
5 Black And Blue – Backstreet Boys 689,578
6 Millennium – Backstreet Boys 621,000
7 Oops I Did It Again – Britney Spears 612,420
8 Double Live – Garth Brooks 549,000
9 The Bodyguard – Soundtrack 520,000
10 Confessions – Usher 485,965
11 Celebrity – N Sync 459,742
12 Beatles 1 – Beatles 451,253
13 Feels Like Home – Norah Jones 395,480
14 Chocolate Starfish – Limp Bizkit 392,540
15 Speak Now – Taylor Swift 319,701
16 Tha Carter III – Lil Wayne 308,505
17 Lady Gaga – Born This Way 169,387 <———————————— :D

No one expected her to sell another million, but realistically she should have moved approx. 300-500k during week number two.

Week Ending June 5, 2011. Albums: Gaga’s Record Drop-Off
Posted Wed Jun 8, 2011 10:04am PDT by Paul Grein in Chart Watch

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way set another record this week, but not one that Gaga’s team will be happy about. Sales of the album dropped off by 84% from its sizzling (but discount-inflated) opening week. That’s the the steepest drop-off in sales, expressed in a percentage basis, of any of the 17 albums that sold 1 million units in a week in Nielsen SoundScan history.

Hmmm. I predicted a Gaga backlash was coming, but even I wasn't bold enough to imagine that it was going to happen *this* soon!

"With all due respect," thank you for comparing Britney to Gaga. It makes Britney look good that she can still hold up to the new girls. :P I like BTW and FF, they're both great albums. However, comparing an artists 2nd studio album in their prime and an artists 7th studio album is completely idiotic. Britney has proven her longevity and has done the promo circuit, which left her being burnt out after In The Zone. She's found a balance between career and life now and has a family to worry about. She's not Gaga who is 24 and can go where ever she wants, when she wants without thinking about 2 babies. But anyway, I digress, people are comparing both ladies sophomore albums. In which Gaga still had the 99 cents to inflate(billboard's words, not mine) her sales and Oops was sold at regular price without the beauty of itunes. 440,000 is 40%(ish) of her sales from the amazon deal. Your come back to me is going to be that amazon payed the difference, blah blah blah but fans still bought in excess, what could have been upwards of 20 copies for the same price to buy 1 of any other artists album in hopes of breaking the record. Any fan base could have done that to make the sales inflate. You're obviously a biased gaga-lover. Which is ok. But when you try and sound educated, know your facts.

Again I love the album. I've listened to it over and over. I know the lyrics to the songs. I'm just playing devils advocate for the most part.

HUSH Its not even her thats doing the promotion is her team and the media who wants her to make her bigger than she is..

I have no problems with her promoting all she can do is interviews and performances of her material ...the rest of this stuff is orchestrated by others

and

Los Angeles industry analyst Paul Mueller not only confirms to this column that anybody who buys a cell phone with a two-year contract from Best Buy this week will be “sold” a free copy of Lady Gaga’s poorly reviewed CD Born This Way, but that the unwanted “sale” of the CD contributes to the Soundscan sales numbers for the album.

“Lady Gaga’s record company is hoping to sneak in first-week sales numbers to make the album look like it sold more than it actually did,” says Mr. Mueller, who is furious about Best Buy’s promotion. “I, as well as many other people, find Lady Gaga to an incredibly offensive person,” he continues. “I would probably use the CD as a frisbee for my dog, but would not want to support this woman in any way possible.”

Customers who purchase certain smartphones will add two indirect votes to Lady Gaga’s first week chart numbers as they will also be “given” a digital copy of the album in addition to the physical copy. All this could add at least 200,000 fake sales for the Born This Way album

Nice TRY ON YOUR PART though

and 99 cents? really? Since when does some of her calibur drop an album for 99 cents....I mean that makes it so easy to pump her numbers up is her album even worth anything?

and the gay community is a small community in the grand scheme of things
so even though they love and support lady gaga they are not the bulk of her fanbase...she crosses alot of demographics GORL

but the gay fans did shift into turbo when she made a song FOR THEM

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

HOLY SHIT! Gaga just gave one of the best performances she's ever done, you guys HAVE to check it out:

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D78rJAkHTNI[/ame]

A little interview after the whole thing

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CtJkArno5k[/ame]

I cannot wait for the Born This Way ball and hear/see how the performances for Government Hooker and Bloody Mary will be.

Also, we can expect a lot more amazing performances in this The Edge of Glory period, she always comes up with really cool and eye grabbing stuff when her performances are related to death.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

So we're getting into all these Britney-Gaga nonsense again, I'm just gonna do this once cause it always ends up the same:

It makes Britney look good that she can still hold up to the new girls.

Her sales/management/production teams sure can. That's what they get paid for after all.

and besides if she truly was not declining she would be able to do what Britney Spears does which is release a single and go to bed and still have good opening numbers and big single sales

Her new album was fetched to be a generic, dance, chart topper by the best chart toppers and most generic producers in the world. It amazes me how bad TTWE did before the remix considering how radio friendly and party made, Kesha 2.0 and catchy it is. Now, that a religion related controversial song managed to be top ten in the Religious States of America is pretty outstanding. It only managed to get there thanks to it's strong digital sales the first week, cause it's radio airplay was pitiful.

Hold it against me had an amazing debut, but it's a forgettable song and thanks to it's lack of live performances it's not even in the iTunes top 100 right now (correct me if wrong) go ahead and tell me what number Born This Way (the song) is. In fact, it's so forgettable that I had a hard time remembering it's name, I kid you not.

And I didn't even get into the success that the little promo song, The Edge Of Glory, was, has been, and will be. Cause let's remember the video is not out yet and the promo has barely started.

I'm not even gonna go into her "live performances". Or lack of them should I say.

Now to be done with this I'm just going to remind you all something: Gaga is constantly compared and asked to hold her title, whatever it is, against the biggest and most legendary people in the world like Madonna. Britney would have a hard time holding her title to Kesha.

I'm done.

i don't know what wacko source you got there, but check any RECENT source--the smartphone copies were NOT counted.
nice try on your part though, budd.
and i don't even know how to respond about you attacking her and her team for promoting her. like...wow--i can't even ^_^

and again, you're CRAZY, absolutely LOONY, if you can't admit the LGBT crowd isn't her main fanbase.

haha, oh my gosh -_______________________-

i'm glad you like both albums. but seriously. if gaga was around back when britney was still actually something special/big, and when there wasn't illegally getting music, gaga would be JUST as huge, if not bigger. and so what about the 99 cent thing? without it, she still sold 600,000+ copies of the album, which is AWESOME for these times, when you can easily get it illegally.
so everyone needs to stfu with these complaints. the only idiots complaining about gaga's 99 cent deal are the loony britney fans who feel the need to keep going on and on and on and on and on..... no offense to you, of course; i'm talking about the people that are on that breathe exhale website.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Bless your heart. You really are delusional. #-o You can't not be big and have songs hit billboard #1 and stay in the top 10 for weeks without doing any sort of promotion for them. Both ladies careers are going great. There's no use in bringing the other down just because you don't like the other. Gaga's career is huge right now. Britney is doing amazing for an artist with 13+ years in the business. ..|

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Ugh, I really wish I could come into this thread and read about Gaga (just like I would like to do in the Brit thread.. about Britney) and not have to sort through the bitchy purse fights.

It's not a competition!!!

Anyway, I'm still obsessed with BTW. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion is currently my most played track. :luv:

oh, come on. it's SO obvious that she's noooooo where near as popular as she used to be! her last single went #3, first of all, and only because her label was lame and released that stupid remix to boost up sales and the charts.... it wouldn't have gone that high without the remix. and HIAM went #1, yeah, but then quickly dropped way down. is it even on the charts anymore? and the two singles before that didn't even make top 10. not trying to be rude; but your whole theory about going #1 without promotion is a little.... well, yeah. i mean, the two singles before radar and if you seek amy went #1 and #3, which is good; but you made it seem like every single goes number 1.
and may i point out, speaking of your "going #1 without promotion" hokey doke, that britney spears has been in the industry for over a decade and has gotten only four #1s. lady gaga has been for about 3 years and has 3. katy has gotten 4 in a row in one year. just throwing that out there.
for being in the industry for over a decade, yes, britney is going fine. but all i'm saying is that she's neither as big as she once was, nor as big as gaga right now. which is fine, since gaga is current and still relatively new.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Truth.

My favs are BTW and TEoG. :-)

judas has been stuck in my head since it leaked ^_^
but my faves from BTW are TEOG, J, MTN, and A. those are the four best, imo.
