How many do you speak fluently, and how many can you get by in if you had to?

I speak English and Spanish fluently, and I can get by in German, Italian, and French.

:)

English and French fluently, semi-conversant in Modern Standard Arabic, decent reading knowledge of Spanish and Italian.

English is my mother tongue.

Je parle le francais.

Nihongo sukoshi hanashimasu.

English and German (southern dialects), but I'm not fluent in German anymore.

I speak English and German fluently, some French, I can read Cyrilic script but can't actually speak Russian.

English is my native language. I can hold a pretty good conversation in American Sign Language.

I was almost kicked out of France because my French was "atrocious" and I was "butchering the language".

Don't the French have language police? That can like arrest you if you tear up the language bad enough?

It's funny I posted in a similar thread on EC today. So here's what I wrote with some changes.

I'm only fluent in English. Apparently when I was little I used to know Punjabi too, but I think when I started school I forgot it all because we don't speak Punjabi at home. Though first year in uni I took an introductory course in Punjabi so I know how to read and write it now, but my reading-comprehension level is really low, because I can't understand most things I read without a dictionary. I can speak Punjabi a little but I'm better at understanding it, but even then sometimes I have no clue what is being said. I've studied French from about grade 3 til about the first term in uni. So you would think I'd be fluent in that? Nope. Since then I'm slowly starting to forget French, but I must say I think I'm pretty good at reading and writing it, I can speak it okay, but whenever I hear it spoken it's too fast for me to understand anything lol.

English is my first language. I used to be able to converse in French, but I've lost most of it. I want to relearn French and I'd like to learn Hebrew, as well.

English and American Sign Language.

No hablo el espanol y la francias.

For now, I only speak English. (Yes, bad Scott, I know.)

I do plan to learn Quebecois French sometime in the future though.

Now, as for the b/f....

He speaks English, can read/write and understand most Japanese, and is currently studying Russian. He was a linguistics student awhile back, so he has a very sharp ear.

Sadly, I only speak English fluently. But I can get by with limited French and Korean.

Your passport is confiscated and you are escorted and boarded onto the next flight out.

j/k

!oops! SDR117, elvin1, I hope you don't think all French are like those you speak about. I can assure you that I've met strangers (who didn't speak french) and I've not confiscated their passports.
Come, and I'll show you the french welcome  :fellate: .

About languages, I speak English and Spanish (and of course, french), but not fluently.
