I, like the Pianist, recently came into a few (very few) pennies. If all goes well, I plan to have Lasik done sometime in October with Dr. Crews in Vancouver, WA. Has anyone else had this procedure? Any stories?

i know 3 people who have had some type of eye corrective procedures. From what i understand they are not all commonaly called "lasik" some are something else it depends on you eyes, but they both end up correcting your near sightedness. 2 people it went very well for. one had 20/15 vision within 24 hours of the sugery. one had 20/20 vision in about 48 hours and was somewhat sensitive to light for a couple weeks, but had no real discomfort. the thirs was my previous secretary who couldn't see to drive, had headaches, and got dizzy for several months after the sugery. her doctor finally put her back into glasses (but not near the same perscription) for reading while at the computer and driving and recommended a "touch up" follow up procedure. Her's was covered by her guarentee so the second surgery is free. But she's not sure she will do that since she had so much discomfort the firs time.

i've not had it done so can't speak to it personally.

I had lasik about four years ago. It was expensive then ($4000), but I never regretted it. It is so great to go about the day without those damned glasses--especially in the south where it is so hot that the glasses constantly fog over. The only drawback, and I got used to that really quickly, is that at night there is a "halo" effect on lights outside. Doesn't affect your sight indoors, but oncoming cars have a special kind of look (actually rather pretty) to their headlights. But do it--you will never regret it.

I too had lasik surgery. It was 5 years ago last month. One eye lets me see better close up & the other eye, stuff at a distance. I also have the halo effect with lights at night & when those car lights come towards me it is irritating. But all in all it's the best thing I ever did. I mean to wake up each morning being able to see the alarm clock & not fool with contact lenses is a blessing. My lasik cost a little over $2000. Plus I got the lifetime enhancements & speaking of that, things aren't as clear as they were 5 years ago so I made an appt to go to the DR next week so they will determine if I need a touch-up.

I've been afraid to have the procedure because every time I see it advertised on TV, the doctor performing the surgery is wearing glasses.

thats kind of like a hardresser with bad hair, or an overweight personal trainer

never a good sign

I'd never let anyone slice on my eyes

its a big fear of mine. i freak if anything gets close to my eyes.

I just would like to remind you that Lasik has not been around for too long. Yeah, there have been a lot of people that have had success after the procedure, but this is short-term. There have not been a lot of studies on the long term effects of Lasik which is kind of frightening....

I post on kathy Griffin's board on her personal site, and she has had huge issues with lasik.

yep... I'm one of her gays

Shhhhh ;) ... people will think I'm a nerd

anyway, its a big cause of hers...

let me dig up a link to that part of her boards

there ya go

I already think you're a nerd. :p But so am I.

Thanks all for the posts. I'm planning to go to the doctor that my aunt and her boyfriend went to. My aunt has halos and her boyfriend had perfect results. I have horrible vision right now so anything to help...

Please tell me that they "DO NOT" do BOTH of them at the same time????

What if something BAD goes wrong and you canNOT see after BOTH of them have been done???

Do they offer FREE Seeing Eye Dogs??

I don't mean to be cynical at all; for I do NOT know the answer to this ???, I am serious about the question!

RSVP, sooner!(*8*) (*8*)

I know 2 guys who had it done here in .za and both had 20/20 vision within a week of the procedure with no complications of any sort.

Tried for it myself, but my corneas are not up to scratch, apparently... sucks.

They do both at the same time. I have horrible vision to the point that I can't function without glasses or contacts. There are also various reasons that contacts and glasses aren't the best long term option for me. Granted, being blind would not be worth it, the opportunity to be able to see at least a bit better is worth it to me. I'm researching and being very careful about who I go to. I recognize that there is a risk, but I'm willing to take it.

As far as the seeing eye dogs. They do at least offer follow ups. But if need be, I'll hire a seeing eye boy. :p

I had Lasik done 3 years ago. Let me tell you that it is the best thing you can do for your eyes. I was very nervous before having it done, but the surgery only took 10 minutes for both eyes and there is no pain at all. I paid $3500 but I get free lifetime enhancements. In fact I just visited the eye doctor for my annual check up and my eyes have started to change. Things are not quite as clear as they once were. This is all due to the fact that my vision was so bad that sometimes the first Lasik procedure may not hold. This is why I have the lifetime guarantee. If I had to do it all over again, I certainly would! Hope this helps. :gaysex:

The doctor is wearing glasses to protect his own eyes, but yeah, I would be afraid of what happens to the eyes in old age as well.

If you see a hairdresser with a great cut, then you should be going to his collegue.

And here I was reading it as Lasix and wondering why you wanted that?

Haha, I was thinking the same thing at first. Then I figured he was just into water sports. LOL.

i had custom lasik 5 months ago. it is the next step in lasik.they use a fingerprint of your eye and laser out the best shape for you. regular lasik is what they give everyone without a map of your eye.custom lasik is suppose to give you better vision than regular lasik.i say suppose to cause i obviously can't compare the two. someone on here said that they hoped they did one eye at a time. hello! how could you see? you use both eyes to focus on objects?i paid $3,000.00(still paying for a year)the procedure was scarey!! it was quick though. they numb your eyes with drops and cut the a flap that they move a side and they press on your eye till you go blind(not kidding) and than you see a red dot which is the laser.your site comes back but the oddest part is you see smoke coming from your eye and it smells like burning hair!they push the flap back which takes 48 hours to close so you must be careful not to move it with water or your finger. you'll actually lose your site right away if it moves but they can just push it back ito place and than you can see again right that moment. if your gonna do it make sure you take some sorta medication to relax you.that would have helped me greatly! but my vision is perfect. i got a small bacterial infection on my eyelashes but drops cleared it up. way worth it! the money is the only thing that got me. but you cannot compare seeing the world from all angels where glasses only lets you see what's in front of you.i always wore tiny framed glasses and didn't realise my headaches were from my glasses being to small. now i don't get the migranes at all anymore. it's like a flat world going into 3-d.it really is life changing.get it done!
