when i was 7 yrs old my mom wanted me to take accordian lessons because she loved polka music on lawrence welk show. i refused because in my little mind i figured mom would make me play it on the l.w. show and the kids in school would laugh at me. today i love l.w. and even tape his shows [local pbs] each week for mom, she has a big library now of his programs.

Oh, yes - I watched Lawrence Welk with my family. I never really was that 'in' to it, though. I tolerated it and have no great nostalgia feelings for the show or the reruns on PBS, but I now at least appreciate the workings that must have gone into the whole orchestra / big-band show week after week.
