Learning Mandarin/Chinese

So it turns out that it's fucking hard, you guys were right! I have a test on Wednesday where my Laoshi will read out ten words and I will have to write their characters. I've been studying but I just can't correlate the sounds to the characters. Erghhh. I should have studied Spanish...

TingXie. Listen and write. Our teacher used to read out passage and we have to write out a whole passage. Its like a mind twister.

Don't give up, it'll take practice. If you haven't already, then make some flash cards :

Cut out name card sized pieces of card, have character and meaning on one side, and pronunciation on the other. In your spare time (say on the bus from A to B), test yourself.

Don't worry about how your hand writing of Chinese is at the moment, there's always time to improve. The thing is to associate the character with the sound with the meaning, and then the context in which it is used.
