I've just listened to an extract on the www from an American radio show, where a girl called in to complain about problems she'd had on a recent first date. Her primary complaint was that the guy wore leather pants:
Is there something wrong with that? If they are well made and fit correctly, why not? Is this some cultural taboo that doesn't exist where I live?

As this was on American radio, I assume that pants means trousers. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with leather trousers although these days I might be inclined to think that the wearer was a bit of a tosser. If it had been a Bavarian radio show, we'd be in different territory altogether.

I was picturing something like jeans, but leather. Lederhosen might be less ordinary outside Germany, but any short pants are not ideal for a date in many cultures (although they would be accepted in parts of South Africa).

A smelly, sweaty crotch?

The attire seems a bit too presumptuous, too demanding to wear to a first date. Not the least bit romantic to anyone looking for a relationship. Save it for hookups/quickies.

That jump/step between confidence and arrogance has never been very big.

Leather pants sound so gay to me
I've never seen a straight man wearing them.

Leather pants are entirely acceptable for rock musicians and nobody ever looked so perfect in them as the great Iggy Pop.
I could never wear them them myself but that is only because leather is a product which requires the slaughter of animals.
There is always imitation leather but that is too horrible for different reasons.

Also, while we are on the subject of pants.

Never wear parachute pants on stuffed cabbage night.

/\ Looks like a 'Buffalo Bill' type situation.

It requires about 30 cows to make a BMW, on average, variable depending on model.

He sounds like he is a homo.

Leather is a by-product of the meat industry.

Sort of like pet food, actually.

Which is more noble?;)

Just as well that I will never buy a £50,000 beemer then.

Pet food has to be what it is. Cat food tastes horrible, I've tried it.
Cats and dogs are carnivores, we do not have a right to try to make our pets vegetarian, it is not good for them.
Humans are omnivores, we can make our own choices. We don't need leather pants any more than we need meat.
The choice is yours to make.
