Leaving your comfort zone?

I am about to go through a big change, I suppose. I start my Freshmen year in college in a few weeks and I will be doing the dorm experience. I don't like that I will be sharing a room with someone I don't know. Or that I have to share public showers/toilets. Not very comfortable.

Funny thing is I do like change (the good ones), so I am excited. Just that it can be scary...I like a good thrill though. I get bored easily, but I am a regular guy with somethings...like food and guys.

this month I am moving from wisconsin to the SF bay area for college. I am excited but I will miss my mom a lot.

I periodically coax myself into doing it. Travel helps to make it a little easier, because you're bolder in a new an unfamilar town where "what happens there stays there." In my work life, I've occasionally volunteered for assignments that took me out of my comfort zone, like leading projects and giving public presentations. It's nerve-wracking, but the rewards are priceless. Still, I would say the majority of the time I play it pretty safe.

What if I fail? I hope I'm not making a huge mistake.

If you fail (whatever that means), you'll pick yourself up, correct the mistakes, and learn from them. Of course, failing isn't even going to happen. Good grief Porkchop, you know how to teach. You know how to motivate the students. That hasn't changed just b/c you're entering a different school building.

Besides, I bet you beat out a lot of other applicants. Clearly your new employer has faith in you!

What will you be teaching now?

By the way, I hope you have mastered the fine art of fibbing and saying no to requests, so that you won't end up covering another teacher's bus duty or taking on too many projects like you did prefer. Better train your new coworkers right from the get go.

No, really.

I haven't been in a 'comfort zone' since realizing I was gay...

and 90% (est) of the rest of the world isn't...

Back in the Army, when I was 19, and a guy riding with me and another soldier in a jeep said, "I hope nobody in here is one, but I think all fags ought to be lined-up and shot."

Back when they asked me, "Have you ever been a practicing homosexual?" like it was some vile, disgusting, occasional vice.

Back when my dad looked at me and said, "Does this mean you're queer?"

Things are better now, but not comforting.
