Legendary Film Director, Robert Altman has passed away. He was 81

This is terrible. He was a brilliant man. The Player and Short Cuts are two of my favorite movies. Come Back To The Five & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean is pure genius. Wish it would come out on DVD.

so sad. I loved MASH and Prairie Home Companion was great.
I got to see Prêt-à-Porter in the theater with Gov. Ann Richards.

He had a good run, and he made some great films. R.I.P. :(

I was never a huge Altman fan, but his contribution to American cinema is immeasurable. I loved "The Player" and "M.A.S.H." if, of course, a classic. My favorite of all his films was "3 Women," which equally phenomenal cinema artiste David Lynch owes more than a passing nod to.

Amazing that a talent such as his, who i must admit i did not appreciate that much, could produce films like MASH and GOSFORD PARK and then have the nerve to put NASHVILLE on the screen.

Someone here remind me, Mr. Altman was associated with a play that has just recently opened in London. We spoke about it and now my mind is a blank as to what the play and to whom i spoke. I sincerely apologize.!oops! !oops! !oops!

I am truly embarassed.!oops! !oops!

Sad news. Altman was a great movie director. One of the few American auters of his generation. He leaves an interesting body of work with some commercial successes and critical failures. He directed films as diverse and fascinating as Three Women, Gosford Park, Nashville, The Player or MASH. A loss for movie lovers.

Robert Altman was involved with the first British production of Arthur Miller's Resurrection Blues at the Old Vic Theatre.

Me too! But Nashville is my all-time favorite movie. I can't think of anyone who better understood how interrelated all our lives are than Altman! The world will miss him!

"A Wedding"

Was a *brilliant* film of his...

HE coaxed a performance out of Carol Burnett (of all people)
that was simply amazing...

That scene with the auto accident was pure genius....

I mourn his loss.

While I tend to agree with most of your entertainment related posts, I feel you're way off about Carol Burnett. She gave an awesome performance (Emmy nominated. Don't remember, if she won.) as the mother of a soldier killed accidently be our own army in "Friendly Fire."

Wow!

I truly enjoyed Altman's films, for he did NOT bow-down to his critics; but took a road that was barely travelled by others...

Altman never minced words about reproaching Hollywood. After the Sept. 11 attacks, he said Hollywood served as a source of inspiration for the terrorists by making violent action movies that amounted to training films for such attacks.

"Nobody would have thought to commit an atrocity like that unless they'd seen it in a movie," Altman said.

Altman was written off repeatedly by the Hollywood establishment, and his reputation for arrogance and hard drinking - a habit he eventually gave up - hindered his efforts to raise money for his idiosyncratic films.

Rarely does a film maker survive if they stray from the "cookie-cutter" mold that Hollywood expects them to be; but Altman is truly a dieing breed...

He will be missed!(*8*) (*8*)
