Leno moves back to 11:30! Conan out?

You gotta be kidding Josh. Why would he walk away from ALL that practically free

money from his contract? Besides, what the hell else can he do for work?

NO, his jokes might be stale but that business mind sure isn't.

This is exactly the problem with our (American I mean) out look on life and society. We care so much about how much money we COULD make that we never stop to decide that we should only worry about what we need and leave any excess to the multitude of people who experience actual need.

Sorry I know that really has very little ot the topic I just had to spew my bitter recessionist resentment of capitalism ;) We can resume talking about how NBC needlessly sunk Conan and/or Jay for absolutely no reason.

Personally if jay does get his 11:30 time, they should just give him his tonight show and put Conan 12:30 giving his late show back. and then they could just put jimmy fallon afterwards. i seriously dont think anyone watches last call with Carson Daily, so that way all of them win (except carson lol).

But think about it: They made Conan uproot his life and move all the way across the country for his job, and now he's apparently lost that job less than a year later. Fucking ouch.

I'm just confused: If he going to stay in LA, or is he going to move back to New York and do Late Night again, or. . . . .what?

I heard they failed IQ tests just to get to the door. Maybe the FAUX (fox) system will give the loser(s) their own reality shows????

Looks like Leno won.
The damage is already done I think, I don't think he can "win" no matter how often NBC shakes things up. The more they change things around, the more critical viewers are going to be. NBC is burying themselves in a deep hole. I kinda hope Conan does change networks (although I hate Fox also) and let the others sink with the ship at NBC.

Jay did a really brave move when he agreed to leave 11:30 for primetime. It had never been done like that before. Too bad it didn't work out...

I have to admit though, I haven't watched Jay in at least ten years.

I watch David Letterman because I watch the CBS affiliate for my 11:00 local news. The news on the NBC affiliate in Rochester sucks...

NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top

Jay Leno is going back to his 11:30 PM time slot, and it's looking like Conan O'Brien is the odd man out ... sources tell TMZ.

We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien.

We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot.

I watch Conan's show. He's pretty funny.

I just fail to understand the point of any of this. What was the point of Leno leaving the Tonight Show, replacing him with Conan, replacing Conan with Fallon, and giving Leno his own show at 10:00 PM if they were just gonna shift it all back to the way it was in the first place?

What a mess.

You're right none of it really made sense...Jay was #1 in the ratings but for some reason The Powers that Be thought Conan could bring in a younger crowd..Letterman is KICKING Conan's Ass Big-Time...

I feel sorry for Conan because he was comfortable and making a Great Living in his old spot...Now he's the odd-man-out...We'll see how this Drama un-folds....

This isn't official, it's all rumor right now. Even Leno himself does not believe the rumor is true. But what is official is that NBC is just a mess right now, suffering from a severe identity crisis.

Did anybody else notice that this was reported on TMZ?

Seriously people! Would you go out to some worn down shithouse for fresh gourmet dining? Then why follow this sleazy rag of "reporting" to get facts?

Right now its the classic telephone game. Its all rumor and conjecture. A sleazy, not even tabloid rag throws something out to catch the attention of the public, then the big "reputable" news agencies have to jump in "just in case there IS something to the story". USA Today say maybe's and possibly's, while CNN has to put the "definitive" spin on it. They are all fighting to have the most interest grabbing story. And in the meantime Joe Q. Public doesn't know what to think because he is getting conflicting reports, so he - depending on his inclination - latches onto one story or another and takes it for the be all and end all of life in the universe.

Me, I'll wait til the dust clears and all the facts are in before I go jumping into anything.

^^All of the reports (tabloid and mainstream) have been both consistant and apparently correct.

Leno's primetime show is leaving the air.

He is moving to 11:35.

NBC is negotiating with O'Brien and Fallon.

Daly is out

The head of NBC has given an interview about potential programming for the 10 PM M-F spot.

NBC made an announcement that Jay's 10 show has been canceled after the winter olympics:

http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/10/jay.leno.nbc/index.html

their plan is to have jay for 30 mins at 11:35, then conan at 12:05, and Jimmy at 1:05.

I hope poor conan jumps ship to Fox or HBO or something and does GREAT! Stupid Jay should stay at NBC and sink it.

the network didnt force Jay out of the tonight show-- jay said he wanted "retire" thats why SIX YEARS ago he didnt sign a renewal for the tonight show and why NBC promised Conan the tonight show. for SIX years this was reported-- and at the last minute Jay decided he wasnt ready to retire so NBC gave him his stupid 10:00 show

poor conan!

Just call him Conan O'Flyin'

The peacock ruffled Conan O'Brien's feathers -- and now he's ready to fly the coop.

The "Tonight Show" host feels like the redheaded stepchild of late-night TV after NBC's abrupt decision to cancel Jay Leno's 10 p.m. experiment after just five months -- and return the car-loving comic to O'Brien's coveted 11:35 p.m. slot.

"This level of sh---iness was not expected," one source said.

"He's done a great job for NBC. He moved his entire staff, he moved his family to LA. And five months later, they repay him like this?"

As it stands now, the source said, "Conan would be happier somewhere else."

The pompadoured host has "many options," including a move to Fox, which for years has been looking to create its own late-night show.

Jay Leno May Walk Out of NBC, Too

EXCLUSIVE: First Conan O'Brien says goodbye to NBC, and now Jay Leno might have one foot out the door as well. Oh, what a mess! Word is Jay is furious with the Peacock network for 'Tonight'-gate (trademark!) and may soon walk. ?

Sources close to former 'Tonight Show' host Jay Leno tell me he is furious with the way NBC has treated him and Conan O'Brien and is considering walking away from the entire mess with his head held high. "Now that Conan has made it clear he is leaving the troubled network, Jay is considering doing the same. They have put Jay in a terrible position. It looks like he is the reason that Conan is now without a job. Jay is a great guy and it's not fair that due to NBC's stupidity he looks like the bad guy," a TV insider tells me.

"Plus, what happens when Jay does return to the 11:35 slot if his audience doesn't immediately follow? How can he possibly trust the same network that canceled Conan after only seven months?"

Check out the ethos on Jay! Good for him for sticking up for the guy he essentially got shoved out. And remember, if this mess continues and Jerry Seinfeld winds up on NBC, you heard it here first.

Letterman must be thoroughly enjoying this, as NBC screwed him so long ago.

'The Tonight Show' with Jay Leno ... The Sequel

0112_leno_ex_tmz_01.jpg

Jay Leno will get his one-hour show back, and it will be called "The Tonight Show".... sources tell TMZ.

We're told NBC honchos still have to sit down with Jay's rep and put the finishing touches on a new deal, but NBC has signed off on the plan if Conan O'Brien leaves ... and Conan has made it clear that he's leaving the network, and not on good terms.

O'Brien took several cheap shots at Leno in his blistering letter, denigrating Leno's show as a "comedy program."

Sources tell TMZ Jay and Conan have not spoken with each other since NBC announced the switch.

It's looking increasingly like Conan may be making a deal with Fox for a late night show from 11:00 PM to midnight.

NBC REALLY dropped the ball on this one. It is a shame and I hope the court of public opinion sides with Conan. I think Leno and NBC are being unfair. Conan signed the contract with NBC six years ago. Leno left and tried primetime and lost. BIG TIME. So go! But no, they are forcing the far funnier, IMO, out of NBC...Not too long ago CONAN fired off this letter today...

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I've been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I've been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I've been absurdly lucky. That said, I've been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn't the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn't matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it's always been that way.

Yours,

Conan

THE TONIGHT SHOW SHOULD BE INTERESTING TONIGHT...
