Leno moves back to 11:30! Conan out?

Why is Leno made out as the bad guy? Local affiliates acros the nation were crying foul as his early show was ill-timed and hurting advertising money and late night news ratings. Actually it is NBC all-together, I think. A loser network. So, they give back Leno his old place and he is the fall guy?

Leno could have gone elsewhere.

I do think it is great that they will have to pay Conan a huge settlement. They deserve that.

Exactly. Maybe if it was something other than a legendary television institution than it wouldn't seem so douche and scandalous but you can't pass the torch and then take it back because the thing you were expecting to be bigger and better turned out to be a total flop. It's just wrong.
 
NBC has a pattern with throwing their big moneymakers under the bus.

First Carson,who wasn't ready top leave and his ratings were just fine

Same with Leno,Conan breathing down his neck waiting to take over,but Leno was regularly pounding Letterman and Conan was a big risk at 11:30 for them to begin with.

I wonder if the new contract Leno signed is meant to be really his last from NBC...how long term?

Anybody buy Jimmy Fallon as the next Tonight Show host?I think not.It will be interesting to see who emerges as the future star of the Tonight Show and see if Jay can regain his lost ratings and stature in this mess.
 
Letterman is BASHING Jay more because The Late Johnny Carson chose Leno to HOST "The Tonight Show" over Dave...Their Fued is Legendary and will never end because of Dave's bitterness...

Jay Leno did not walk out on the "Tonight Show"..It was never his intention to "retire" or simply give the show to ANY other person.....The Powers that be forced him out and made the 10pm deal to keep him from going to ABC or FOX...

The ONLY person at fault here is The President of NBC Entertainment..The Guy needs to be fired after the dust settles...

Jay has always been the most Respected host and he'll go back to being #1 in the ratings when he returns...
 
The brass at NBC needs to be shitcanned. Especially Zucker.

Leno is a dick. Conan's note says as much without saying as much because Conan has class and Leno does not. Jay is just pissing all over all sorts of legacy here.

Because he could make this simple for everyone and just step aside as he first intended when he announced it 5 years ago. But he's not. He is obviously "in bed" with the NBC bosses. I don't see why some people don't get this. It's as clear as day.
 
Where was all the Conan supporters when he was getting wooped by 2 million viewers every night? Jay was beating Dave in the ratings, Conan doesn't. Why can't people get that through their thick skull. If your ratings aren't good you get canceled. Jay, at 11:35 was strong and will be again.

All these millions of supporters not watching Conan is the reason he's gone. While the Conan supporters tweet, the Leno fans will actually be watching his show when it moves back.

That's inaccurate. The NBC brass chose Carson's replacement, not Johnny. Though Carson was extremely reclusive and didn't speak openly on the subject he had a VERY strong relationship with Letterman and made efforts to contribute to HIS show in ways he never did for Leno. He had appeared on Letterman's show (which I think was his last televised appearance) and I remember shortly after he died it was revealed that he would occasionally send Dave one liners for his monologue.

Should they also fire local new anchors at NBC syndicates across the nation? It's not the material that's causing the lag it's the poor lead in.

Although on a side note. Something I think this is a huge problem with the neilsen system, the ratings system skews away from young single 20 somethings, Conan's target audience because they insist on giving them to "families"

Leno's viewers are falling asleep before his show is over (which is why he recently moved his signature Headlines from the end of the show back to after his monologue). They turn off their television before even their local news is on. Conan lost those viewers who nodded off during Leno.
 
I like both of them. I grew up watching Leno in the late 90s-00s and now I'm really liking Conan.

I think the best thing to do is let Conan keep the show and have Jay go to another channel.

..LOL...Exactly....Had Conan been a HIT @ 11:35pm nothing would have changed..Letterman Kicked his Ass for 7-straight-months and NBC can't take it...The Conan supporters should have stepped up for the Dude on Day 1 or even Day 90.....They waited until all the Media-Hype to say they liked him and wanted him to stay....Too little too Late...

Everything will return to Normal after the Olympics...And Johnny Carson's successor will reign once more...;)

Simply refusing to acknowledge the counterpoint which has been made several times, that Conan never had a decent lead in as Letterman did, and the evidence to support it, the decline in ratigns at news syndicates across teh nation, does not make them cease to exist but it does make your argument seem hollow and your congratulations premature.
 
I'm hearing buzz that Howard Stern will be one of Conan's last guests next week. That would be epic, seeing how Leno is one of Stern's biggest asswipes.
 
Conan has a good point when he talks about not getting a fair shake at gaining viewers and having time to boost his ratings. People forget that in 1992 when Jay Leno took over for Carson his ratings were poor and when Letterman started his Late Show almost a year later Letterman kicked his ass in ratings for the first couple years they were going head to head.

So it's really bullshit for someone to blame Conan and his lack of ratings he has received when he's only had the show for 7 months now. He really hasn't been given a chance at all.

The only reason why Letterman beat Conan in ratings was because of the whole Sarah Palin thing as well as the sex scandal. That's what everyone was talking about around that time, so everybody tuned in.

You know, what if this whole NBC drama was just a ploy to get people talking and generating press?
 
When Leno left The Tonight Show, I switched to Letterman. I thought Conan's antics were more silly than funny.
 
Then only way Conan could build an audience would be to provide something worth watching.
In his entire career that hasn't happened.
The only one LESS appealing is Jimmy Fallon who is THE biggest disappointment since Ronald Reagan.......

That said Jay SHOULD have shut the fuck up and minded his own business.......go home......count is money.......play with his cool toys......

Leno tonight just gave his "interpretation" of this whole deal. Lying through his teeth, he tried to make it look like he was the victim and then even tried to make Conan look like the bad guy since he rejected NBC's 12:05 offer. Yet during his whole dramatic story, he couldn't look straight into the camera or at the audience. Leno actually should have been the one to move to Fox, Fox News that is. He certainly has that knack of altering the truth. He even denied that a decision has already been made by NBC and won't know until tomorrow. His nose was growing to be a perfect match for his chin.:^o
