Hi guys im assuming by now most people over the water have heard of the latest X-factor winner (u.k american idol type thing) Leona Lewis.

Just wondering what the buz is over in the states or anywhere else for that matter as its in the news that Sony and Jive are battling it out to sign her with huge sums of money on offer.

She is guarenteed the U.K Christmas number one today as she had advanced orders of over a million and she broke a record last week of the quickest downloads she sold 50,000 in 30 mins in the u.k alone she has also sold an estimated 400,000 actual c.ds since wednesday of the kelly clakson hit ' A moment like this'

Anyway let me know your views here is a clip she sang on the semi final which was dedicated to a family member who has passed away.

And please no hating and comparing her to Mariah or whitney, im a huge fan of Mariah and all those diva's but this girl is just starting and she is a shy 21 year old from london

She definitely owned that show! She is stunningly amazing and she's so sweet and adorable, the type who doesn't have any idea how good she really is. She's gonna be very big.

Great voice but has the personality of a wet sponge. Then again, i'd take Leona with her dull personality over Mariah scarey carey's "demanding" diva personality anyday.

I dont get where people are getting this personality thing from she has not even done a proper interview yet, fair enough she is a bit shy but from what i have seen she is just as friendly and entertaining as any other contestant?

Will Youngs last album sold very well.

Girls Aloud are another hugely successful band to come out of a UK Reality Singing Show. Now 14 top 10 hits and their Greatest Hits has given them their first album number one. The album should also sell nearly 1 million/possibly more.

I really should look at the charts more often, I used to but I my taste in music doesn't sell that well so I gave up.

Still two successful artists from reality shows isn't too good a record is it?

I do like Girls Aloud; but the problem I have with that group and Westlife is that they cover other people's songs to much! THey should come up with their own material if they want to be credible.

Lmao, you're delusional if you think Kelly is the only talented person from AI. Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Hudson, Katharine McPhee, Carrie Underwood, La Toya London, Diana DeGarmo--just to name a few--would huff, puff, and blow Leona away like a damn wolf.

Me too! I really enjoyed the UK finale last night! Mark the Criketeer was a worthy winner! The finalists had to learn five different dance routines in a week! THat was awesome!

Carrie undrwood was shite on the CMA's plus in the final of the x-factor simon said leona is the best he has heard across any of the shows he had done around the world and one of her performances was the best she had ever witnessed and i suppose he knows what he is talking about seems he is a self made multi- millionaire from selecting people who he thinks will make it and shayne ward actually has a single out in 3 weeks and he has been touring and promoting around the world for the last year.

Besides all that i did ask on my first post please no hating i was asking if u had heard of her and what was going on in america with her i didnt ask u to start comparing her to ummm......Taylor hicks i rest my case.

and just checked out Katharine McPhee on youtube singing over the ainbow and it was tragic there is no contest with her and leona what are you thinking???

It's a shame that they had her cover such a classy amazing song already done by the most talented, successful artist to come from reality TV, Kelly. I mean is Simon so tight up that he can't shell out a few hundred thousand dollars for some writers to write up another, 'omg, my dream has come true!' songs?

No one will ever amount to what Kelly has done or will do in the future. I feel for Leona, 'cause she has what it takes to be semi successful here in the US, but with Simon, all he's going to do is pimp her out on AI (like Will Young on AI1) and all people will see her as is a british wannabe (like Will Young on AI1)..

My suggestion for leona is to take the coverage she's got so far, AND RUN! RUN from Simon and his management, or else she'll end up the next Le Toya London, Diana Degarmo, Ruben and Fantasia. Amazingly talented people, with no success to back it up!

Anywho, Leona is just average, nothing to exciting. She probably wouldn't make it past the round of 32 on American Idol. She is definately not a Whitney or Christina in voice, no where near.

Although I agree with you about Leona not being anything exciting, I do think her voice is exceptional and if given time and space to perfect she could be this countrys greatest female vocalist. As for being a whitney, the last time I looked Whitney hadn't had a decent song out since the nineties and I doubt her vocals will be in any fit state after her excessive drugs binge.

From the clips I've seen on YouTube Leona has blown me away. Aside from being drop dead gorgeous I love her attitude and wow what a voice! I hope she breaks out here in the States soon. I know I'll be a huge fan of hers in the future!

The charts in the UK don't really mean anything to anyone these days. I remember there was always excitement about who'd be the Christmas Number 1 but now nobody cares.

It's also a very sad state of affairs that the song that was number 1 at Christmas was yet another manufactured pop star and the top three albums were by manufactured bands.

I never understand peoples problems with manufactured singers/groups, i understand the fact that usually there debut album is just covers and songs designed to chart high but once they come into there own a few albums in, they are pretty good eg, will youngs 'Fridays Child' And kelly clarksons 'Breakaway'

But Albums aside i feel most of these so called manufactured or reality TV music stars deserve more credit than most 'Natural' Artists as they have had to prove week after week that they can sing 'LIVE' and are thrown into the limelight and media straight away where as other artists come out with months of preperation and pep talks and have a amazing album or single but when they actually sing live are SHIT yet these artists seem to get all the respect and credit just because they took the so say 'correct' route to fame etc.

So yeah shayne ward or kelly clakson or girls aloud and possibly leona lewis may not win a grammy or a brit for song writting any day soon but they have talent and have proved this through months of live shows and pressure so cut them some slack.
