Re: 3rd Leona Lewis Single For USA?

Well its confirmed that its I WILL BE. Your thoughts people? I wish Homeless could be released here in the usa AND as a single.

What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

It's hard to believe that it hasn't even been 2 years since Leona Lewis' debut album Spirit was released and her only top 10 hit in the US, Bleeding Love came out. I remember right before she was big in the US, I was youtubing her X factor performances & comparing her to Mariah Carey, thinking that she had the best vocals of any singer from any of these reality show singing competitions I've ever heard. Everyone was saying she was the next big star with staying power, plus it seemed like she wasn't a diva & had a great personality. Since Bleeding Love, she's had a few more minor hits and released her last single in the US early this year, which didn't even make a strong impact on the charts. So, what happened to Leona Lewis?

What do you guys think? Do you think she has staying power? Spirit only went platinum in the US, compared to 9x platinum in the UK. Maybe she does have the staying power, but just couldn't really crossover into the US. Maybe aside from Bleeding Love, there wasn't much promotion for her album in the US (as Bleeding Love and Spirit almost sold the same). Or maybe she has no desire to be a big international star, I have no clue. I have heard that she has been in the studio for her next album. What have you guys heard? Do you even care? Opinions?

2009–present: Forthcoming second album and tour
This section contains information about a scheduled or expected future album. The content may change as the album release approaches and more information becomes available.

Lewis's second album is planned for a worldwide release in November 2009.[50] Production was said to have begun in February 2009, including work with Ryan Tedder,[51] Justin Timberlake[52] and Timbaland.[53] Timberlake has contributed production and vocals to several songs,[52] and produced the album's first known success from recording sessions, "Don't Let Me Down", written by Timbaland's protegé James Fauntleroy and recorded at Chalice Recording Studios.[54] Tedder stated in an interview that he and Lewis spent a week in a recording studio, where they produced two and a half songs.[51] He is also keen to work with Lewis again for a week or two in the time leading up to the album's release, when they both are free to do so. Work began with Timbaland in April 2009 in Los Angeles.[53]

Two songs co-written by Ina Wroldsen and produced by Arnthor Birgisson, "My Hands" and "Heartbeat", have been confirmed for inclusion in Lewis's second album.[55] Novel and John Shanks have produced two songs, a ballad and an uptempo song.[56] Production and songwriting duo Xenomania are reported to have written five songs for Lewis's second album.[57] Ne-Yo has confirmed that he has written songs for the album,[58] and Will.i.am and Jay-Z are said to be working with Lewis on the album, which will contain ballads, racier tracks and dancefloor anthems.[59] Lewis expressed interest in working with Coldplay/Chris Martin to give the album a rockier edge,[60] and several demos are said to be influenced by Coldplay.[61] It has also been reported that Lewis has collaborated with Aqualung.[62]

It has been reported that Lewis is planning a 14-month world tour starting in 2010,[63] which will be supporting Spirit and her second studio album. It is said that Lewis has hired choreographer Travis Payne for the tour, which is reported to have a Garden of Eden theme. Her label have apparently said that money is no object.[63]

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

After Bleeding Love, Better With Time became a success and made it to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in late 2008. The third single, I Will Be flopped in the States earlier this year, so the record company decided not to release any more singles.

She's working on the next album.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

I love "I Will Be"! I don't understand why everyone else didn't.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

Her new song 'Perfect Stranger' leaked a few weeks ago but they seem to have taken them all down off youtube. i heard it and it was ok, nothing too special but i was never her biggest fan. great voice but no personality... anyway though, to answer your question she'll be back around november with a new album

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

She will be back better than ever later this year and she will start going on tour as well.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

You can have a perfect voice but if your songs are shit and leave everybody cold only marketing can help you.
And it seems that marketing has started.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

The problem is that up till now, she's basically a balladeer. Which is fine, but if you want mainstream success, you gotta be able sing a variety.

Remember the Olympics closing ceremony? She performed and up-tempo song with the guitarist from Led Zeppelin. She looked a little uncomfortable doing anything that's not a ballad.

Hopefully, she's finding her groove in things and is more comfortable. I do think her voice is unique. It's a shame for it to go unnoticed.

yeah i was watching that too and i was thinking like "will she be able to stay in the industry THAT long for the next olympics?"

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

"Better In Time" was pretty big, or it got a lot of airplay around me anyway. "I Will Be" pretty much flopped though. I kinda liked it though.
I thought she had a great voice so hopefully she can pull something off over here.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

For a fact, I Will Be flopped because it was the THIRD love ballad in a row to be released from Leona. You go from Bleeding Love to Better In Time to I Will Be and there's differences in each one, but overall, they are sappy love songs.

If she mixed it up and released Forgive Me instead (which was successful overseas and already had a video) or something up-tempo, it would've been a much better result.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

She didn't get a personality that's for sure.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

She's a bit generic to me, I like performers with spunk and personality and she's just like a mop that stands on stage, belting out trite romantic songs with the unforgivable combination of lots of power and no conviction. She needs to find her own niche ASAP.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

Shes very shy leave the girl alone, and is an awesome singer. "I will be" was never released in the UK, will have to listen to it.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

When she didn't get the Best New Artist nomination i knew she was in trouble.

She was supposed to be the next big thing. And had so many big names backing her including Clive Davis.

She needs songs that suit her voice.

Another problem is her label didnt know what to do with her because they tried to make her a dance artist same like they did with Whitney when she first came out.

Leona Lewis is a true vocalist and does not better yet should not be dancing. She was clearly out of her element singing and dancing.

People like Whitney and Celine Dion can sell out arenas all over the world and people come just to hear them sing. Leona is that kind of artist.

She needs to be true to herself.

Anyways Rihanna disappeared after her second single in 2005 and fast forward 4 years later she is one of musics biggest superstars with the most number 1 songs this decade; so dont count out Leona yet.

Just like Rihanna, Leonas label believes in her and will come bigger and better with her second album.

And if the second album doesnt do it 3rd times the charm and she will have her Umbrella.

Although it could be argued that Bleeding Love was her Umbrella and its all down hill from there. Time will tell.

That's how I've thought of her. Celine doesn't dance, or IMO have a larger than life personality, but people still love her.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

Her voice is amazing, no doubt about it.

One thing I noticed is her lack of promotion and interviews with Americans. She needs a better label.
Leona also needs to release her songs continously like Rihanna in order to have her name pernamently stay in the industry. Songs from Good Girl Gone Bad were basically all singles. & Speaking of having a name in the industry, she hardly does American press. If Leona wants to sell, girl better get her ass to America.

A lot of her songs are also very forgettable. I have 4 of her songs on my iTunes. I honestly can't remember the other 3 besides Bleeding Love.

In conclusion, Leona just isn't trying hard enough.

Re: What Happened to... LEONA LEWIS?

Shes proper loved here in the UK and i mean loved... Personally I thought bleeding love was brilliant, better in time was enjoyable and forgive me was jus plain annoying after a while. The UK public loved that shizzle though! I hope she doesnt become a one trick pony, and her sophomore effort is a wide array of genres.
