I've seen a number of gay couples, both male and female, on the real estate and home make-over programmes on HGTV, A&E, and TLC. Unlike Canadian programming, I've noticed a trend in American programming in which the male couples rarely ever make any sort of bodily contact. They're partners and that's it. The females, however, are often shown holding hands, cuddling, and even kissing.

It's almost like it's okay for women to be gay, but not men. I'm not sure, but I think the people believe that, since women can't actually penetrate each other (yeah, right!), there is no fucking and they don't actually have gay sex. Therefore, it's easier to accept.

Ya think?

Queen Victoria did not believe that ladies would ever partake in anything as perverse as lesbianism, therefore did not introduce any laws to out-law it.

I never knew that. Interesting.

(And a few men probably think that all a lesbian needs is the right "stud" to show them how great having a man is.)

I've heard a lot of straight men say that, and they seem to think they are the 'stud' who can do it.

Once again, this evolves from straight male thinking. Heterosexual men are still attracted to homosexual women because they're still women (you know straight guys watch lesbian porn, right?).

Women can be attracted to homosexual men but they always say 'I wish he was straight' and it ends there (although this forum is proof that some women like gay porn).

I believe women are more involved in the emotional aspect of relationships and thus I think heterosexual women are a bit more understanding of female-female relationships.

Men however, on average, are more into the physical parts of relationships, thus heterosexual men would almost never be attracted to homosexual men and almost never see eye-to-eye on homosexuality.

That's just my speculation.

It's the hypocrisy of breeder males, they cant stand male queers but they like to see two girls going at it, only because they can imagine themselves being part of the action.
The right answer has been found, we can close the thread now.

Well, we must needs qualify. We're talking "lipstick lesbians" not the "dykes".

"Dykes" take about as much scorn and derision from straight men as they heap on gays.

I knew a dyke in high school. She was actually quite nice in a butch, look at at me the wrong way and I'll go loraina bobbit on you sort of way.

And many heterosexual men treat women as nothing more than sex toys who can obey orders. They may call her "my girlfriend", "my old lady", "my bitch", "my ho", etc., but whatever the title, regard her as a place to stick their dicks, cook for them, wash their clothes -- and a piece of property to be tossed out when she doesn't please them any more.

One of the toughest loggers around here a few years ago was a dyke. She was built like a barrell, wieghed about 240, and had a body fat count of less than 8%.
When other loggers called her a "bitch", it was said admiringly.
If anyone said anything bad about lesbians around her -- well, they didn't.

Holding hands and other public displays of affection are pretty much annoying to the rest of us no matter what the gender(s) of the people involved may be.

Mild PDAs are kool! It's awesome to see tow people acer about each other and don't give a hoot what the rest of us think.
America is such an up-tight Puritan society in so many ways it's sad. Expecting people to be androids in public is more anal than expecting people to not enjoy substances that make them feel good.

yeah i would think the majority of the gay intolerance comes from men, who dont like to see men naked, but do like to see women naked

While the obvious hypocrisy of intolerence towards public contact/shows of affection between gay men is no doubt a factor in this, it is also the case that society is perfectly accepting of such behaviour from heterosexual women without it automatically being labelled as lesbian behaviour. Women even refer to their female friends as 'girlfriends'. Men don't refer to the guys as their 'boyfriends'

This kind of "lesbian" is readily accepted:

While this kind is not:

My experience is that lesbians push the envelope more at being visible than gay men do. I've seen lots of examples of women holding hands in public but rarely have seen men doing it.

That's rather the outcome of the repression. Gays don't hold hands because they know they're going to be spit on or worse.

No ones going to walk up to someone they dont know and spit on them for holding hands!! And even if they do, just spit back you wussy.(!)
