I was wondering if you guys could help me out. My fiance and I are picking out the menu for our wedding, but we're not exactly agreeing. For the entrée, we agreed on the fish dish (grilled swordfish with jasmine basmati rice and mango curry chutney) but I would like to have a beef dish as well (beef wellington with a truffled chanterelle mushroom compote and red wine reduction). However, he wants a duck dish (duck confit, also with a red wine reduction, and a parmesan polenta). Since I don't have the time to email all 300 guests I thought I'd ask you guys you would rather eat. Opinions?

Thanks!

i'd have the duck, i can eat beef and fish anytime.....

I'd prefer the beef dish, but that's just me.

Have you thought about vegetarian/vegan/non-alcoholic options?

We're meeting with the caterer again tomorrow since we didn't like any of the vegetarian dishes she had. And we don't have any vegans coming to the wedding. We also have an open bar that's going to serve a full range of virgin drinks and non-alcoholic beverages (soda, etc).

I mean non-alcoholic for the food, since (apparently) red wine reduction will still retain about half its original alcohol content.

Just my opinion but fish and duck as the only choices is limiting. Some like fish, some like duck, but most, except for vegetarians, like beef. I believe with fish and beef you should be able to please just about everyone, sans Aunt Pain-in-the-Ass.

By the way, Congrats

Really? With all the cooking I've done, the alcohol always burns off. I'll ask her about it tomorrow.

And we're at 2 for duck and 2 for beef so far lol.

I had to look it up myself. It seems like there will indeed be alcohol in the reduction. Better ask to be sure.

And yes, congrats. :)

here's one for beef only because I know lot's of people who don't eat duck---but other than vegetarians--don't know too many people that won't eat a nice piece of beef.*|*

I'd go with duck, and Foie Gras Mousseline...

And may I offer you my best wishes of happiness!

I love duck, but I agree with this:

When my nephew had his wedding, we got a choice between two dishes for each of the starter, main and pudding. But, it required everyone to tell in advance what they wanted. You'll need to ask your caterer if that is doable. A menu was posted with the invites to everyone with a RSPV note (include a stamp addressed envelope to be sure you'll get a reply back).

Personally, I've never tried swordfish so that would be a great starter.

Beef or duck...?

I think the "truffled" idea is great. I'd go for beef myself. I like the idea of a crispy pastry wrapped surprise.

Duck confit sounds nice, but having had a really greasy one before, I don't think I would, if it repeated as badly as last time.

Edit : Was too busy thinking about great food  Congratulations of your big day, and may the two of you have a wonderful hereafter!
