I think that is true, and it seems to make sense to me. Though there are many "experts" in the art world that dispute that, and regard it as an "uninformed opinion." I wonder if they're upset that such an obvious question never occurred to them.

The Greeks may have been known for their decorative columns, but I doubt they invented them. With things like this they probably go back to antiquity, and often the origins are obscure.
