cuz, ya know, Murrica. earlier this month police bodycam captured an officer laughing as he arrests an octogenarian over her $77 trash bill. ya know, land of the free and all.

Thing is ... the cops were just following protocol, which means someone should start thinking about protocol. 82-year-old Martha Menefield opened the door of her Valley, Alabama home and saw 2 cops with an arrest warrant.
We must certainly applaud this police department. One can safely assume if they have time for this arrest their crime rate must be terribly low, they must not have any domestic violence cases or robberies or sexual assaults they can be investigating so, good job protecting and serving the community fellas! #bluelivesmurder oops i mean #bluelivesmatter

I feel so much safer now.

This reminded me of a story I read about a woman who was fined for sharing her water with the old man next door. In searching for a link I found another similar story. I'm sure there are more.

A Spirit Lake man lost a court appeal challenging a fine he received for connecting his neighbor to his city water service via a hose, after the neighbor had been cut off for nonpayment.

Michael Freitas claimed that the city couldn’t constitutionally bar him from making a charitable gift of the water to his neighbor by running a hose across the alley. But the Idaho Court of Appeals, in a unanimous decision, upheld an earlier Kootenai County jury verdict that left Freitas with a $500 fine.

The cops were just doing their "jobs" like the trained seals they are (my apologies to the seal population worldwide). The villains in this story are the politicians who write these laws with no exceptions for citizens who are experiencing hardships, and the courts which uphold them.

For sharing water? Sounds on-brand for the US. ](*,)

It makes more sense that they are written expressly that way precisely as an 'exception' for citizens experiencing hardships.

Let's be clear here.

She wasn't arrested for the delinquent trash bill.

She was arrested because she wasn't some white granny.

. . . and because she was low income. Probably existing on Social Security.

Can you picture these cops knocking on some millionaire's door and arresting/handcuffing them for the same reason?

That's crazy they should of just let it go
