Im not crazy about the word 'gay' but everyone should just be gay. It would be easier.

I am good with LGB as a sexual identity thing.

I think T is a gender identity thing.

I think they are different.

In the end - I don't really care what anyone wants to call themselves as an individual or as part of a group but I do care if they demand that I think exactly as they do.

Here are some others: LGBTTIQQ2SA. Or how do you like LGBTTQQIAAP? These are a couple attempts to capture all the possible variations under the gender and sexuality nonconforming umbrella. The point is that human beings are infinitely variable, no attempt at classification can adequately include everyone, and everybody wants to see themselves recognized as part of the "club." My tendency is to avoid the question of who and who doesn't belong, and realize that we all need to feel valued as individuals, and be recognized as belonging to the human family. What we all have in common is that people and society have told us is that we don't have a right to exist, and we need to stand up to that and confront the damage that does to our psyches.

It does look like we are on a frontier, a sort of gender and sexuality Wild West. The nonbinary designation seems especially radical to me, as it has the potential to be a real game changer. For if someone is neither male nor female, but somewhere in between, that throws out everything. For all of a sudden, terms like male, female, straight, gay, etc. don't mean anything. For if you are nonbinary, no one is really same sex or opposite sex to you, and this calls assigned roles, stereotypes, and beliefs into question. This ain't your father's Kinsey Reports we're dealing with here.

I posted the reply that I did to give a different perspective to this discussion, because a lot of comments seem rather closed-minded to me, with us (mostly) gay men declaring who we shouldn't allow to occupy space under our umbrella. Some sound surprisingly reminiscent of the early days of the Gay Liberation movement, when the homophobic bigots said things to shut down all discussion before it could even begin. "Who the hell do these gay people think they are, parading down the street and saying they want the right to love other men? Why do they think they have the right to ride on the coattails of the Black Civil Rights and feminist movements?" I'm arguing for an open mind here. If we had it so difficult, perhaps we could have some compassion and help ease the way so others don't have it so rough? Some people have said, for instance, that trans people aren't entitled to belong with us. But as bad as most of us have had it in our lives, have any of us ever stopped to think that, as a general rule, trans people have it at least ten times worse than most (of us) gay men?
