Love it - Kirsten Powers, liberal columnist says it's bullshit that there's liberal outrage over Rush's comments (warranted) but they seem to ignore similar comments from their own

1 - Chris Matthews attacking Hillary Clinton during 2008 Dem campaign

2 - Ed Schultz saying Sarah Palin set off a "bimbo alert" and saying Laura Ingraham was a "right wing slut"

3 - Keith O said that conservative commentator S.E. Cupp should have been "aborted by her parents" and called Michelle Malkin a “mashed-up bag of meat with lipstick.”

4 - Matt Taibbi, he of the Andrew Breitbart obit "death of a douche" hates woman conservatives as well - he said of michelle malkin “When I read her stuff, I imagine her narrating her text, book-on-tape style, with a big, hairy set of balls in her mouth.”

5 - bill maher called sarah palin a "dumb twat"

then there's bill maher - he of the $1 million donation to obama's super pac

so the hypocrisy is pretty evident - with liberal commentators in addition to the JUBBERclubbers who polute this forum with their 24/7 "she's a cunt" dialogue

Both sides will go way over what's appropriate...Rush and other conservatives were terribly over the line with their comments.Yet it is a badge of honor on the left to denounce women not progressive in such language. They're ignorant cunts, they deserve being torn down in the basest language they're so stupid..that's how it is with many on the left. What I've come to despise about a good number of them is just how arrogant and nasty they can be.I am no fan of the usual suspect female conservatives, but if one demands respect and civility but dispenses derision then well,I don't really think it speaks well of one's intellectual honesty.

The right will basically tarnish feminists as lesbians and buttinskis or free love sluts...but the left(in both cases,I'm talking of the activists who drive their respective movements, not EVERY mildly liberal or conservative person who doesn't deal in promoting caricatures of the other)despite its own self congratulatory sense of enlightenment,is a mirror image. It's that way with the whole scene of so-called diversity the left preaches....rainbow conformity is more like it.They believe in the basic rights and dignity of all races, creeds(not so much that anymore),sexes, sexual identities...so long as everyone agrees with the whole left agenda. If you don't....it's open season!

Kristen is really gutsy....she appears on FOX and while she isn't a raving ideologue she is pretty damn proud of being liberal. She definitely doesn't shrink from giving her own opinion...sometimes she's moderate, others very much in the liberal column but she definitely always has a honest directness about her,and no sugarcoating her policy differences with the conservatives she has to deal with.

1 - Chris Matthews attacking Hillary Clinton during 2008 Dem campaign

I have to admit to being stupid on this one. Would you kindly elaborate?

And I'll give you Ed Schultz. He's a left wing Limbaugh if there ever was one.

It's not because they're upset by his language. As you've pointed out, the other side is every bit as egregious.

It's about silencing opposition.

^ but isn't "freedom of speech", see OWS support despite ugly realities, a strongly held progressive belief?

The crickets continue

having watched him during the primaries in 2008 .......... it's true

he's old school

here's a quick [STRIKE]cynopsis[/STRIKE] synopsis of comments made that he did not "pay for"

liberal hypocrisy

I'm confused. The link here is about Chris Matthews. The opening comment is about Ed Schultz. I may be wrong, but the last time I checked, what we might have here are two separate individuals.

let me clear that up for you chris
the chris matthews link was to a specific question by Luv - the ORIGINAL link (see opening) is Ms. Powers not too popular in liberal circles take on the hypocrisy of liberal community with regards to misogyny and specifically the Rush incident

do as i say not as i do

appears to be the mantra

where are the prime JUB offenders who (if they were famous) would be part of Ms. Power's story ????

hiding

Conservatives love the false equivalence. Powers' article is stupid and there is no way one can compare what the others have done to Rush Limbaugh.

Rush Limbaugh went on a three day rant against a young woman who testified in a Congressional hearing. He called her a slut, prostitute, suggested she expected that everyone pay for her to have sex, she was having so much sex she couldn't afford her birth control, and that she was having so much sex he didn't know how she could walk afterwards, suggested that her parents should be ashamed of her. No hypocrisy here, only conservative lack of perspective.

Ed Schultz was wrong to call Laura Ingrahm a right-wing slut, he sincerely apologized, he was suspended from his job for a few days or a week. He was also attacking a public figure with her own radio show who could clearly defend herself, not a private citizen. Ingrahm, by the way, is not someone who shies away from over the top attacks.

Bill Maher is a comedian who is prone to outrageous comments. He has gone overboard at times, but he again criticizes public figures.

Nothing Olberman said was misogynistic, unless attacking right-wing women is itself misogyny. Again, he was attacking a public figure who herself engages in plenty of over-the top attacks on other people.

Matthews attacks on Hillary Clinton were over-the-top as well and he is justifiably criticized for being sexist. One can criticize someone legitimately without basing the criticism on negative gender stereotypes (or racial, ethnic, religious, sexual orientation or other stereotypes). However, unlike Rush Limbaugh, he wasn't attacking a private citizen who spoke out publicly about an issue of widespread concern.

^ appreciate the honesty but your post confirms Ms. Powers assertions

The need for "its not the same thing" as a means of justification

It is the same - it's just that Rush has a bigger audience - and liberals view him as a villain and worthy of being ruined

Whereas conservatives never call for liberal talking heads to be fired

Sort of a major difference in the mindsets

In my humble opinion

No, it actually IS different. When the attacked party also has the means to defend themselves publicly, that's a completely different story.

And to say conservatives never call for liberal talking heads to be fired seems... dubious.

He went wild for three days on an issue that affects the overwhelming majority of women and all the people who are in relationship with them. She was a spokesperson who holds the belief that birth control prescriptions ought to be covered by health insurance. He could have stuck to his argument, that, if used strictly for birth control, it ought not be covered the same way condoms aren't covered, without calling her names for three days and asking for sex tapes. There's no defense and some of his advertisers agree.

There is a difference between a private and a public figure and there is a difference between an apology and an excuse.

Chance, I read the article earlier to day and had planned to start a thread -- glad you did.

My expectations of the left are confirmed by the most of the posts here -- they don't see any of the hypocrisy.

You want Bill Maher excused because he's a comedian ... give me a break -- he's not a comedian - he has a focused, agenda driven political show on HBO. It's not comedy show or standup comedy. It's a political show.

What I from all this is that woman like to be called bimbo, slut, whore, twat, c**t -- but only by liberals and the liberal media.

^ Let me guess....

I suspect that this is less a tirade against the liberal media and more a tirade about the OP's ongoing hatred for the liberals who post here and best him in argument after argument.

It is up to the viewers/listeners and employers of the media figures to tell them when they are over the line.

{Text removed by moderator}

The constant rush to the defense of some of the most vile, morally and intellectually bankrupt and cynical demagogues and elevating them to patron saints of the reactionary right is bizarre beyond belief.

Rush is a cunt.

Breitbart was a cunt. Now he is a maggot factory.

Bachmann is a total prick.

Romney is a stupid twat.

Malkin is a stupid dick.

Ingraham is not a slut. She isn't appealing enough. She is a nazi homophobe.

get over it

This. :=D:

'nuff said.

so if I'm hearing u correctly

referring to this law student as a slut is somehow more problematic than referring to a republican governor/congresswoman as such?

because she is NOT in the public eye normally

calling an elected official something is ok??

disappointed in your take

I'm dizzy from the spinning

sarah palin CAN be a cunt

Ms. Fluke cannot

I get it

wonder if their politics has anything to do with that stance

LOL

American culture has made attacking public figures a spectator sport. Whether we like it or not is not the issue here. It's a fact. It's normal, it's expected, and those public figures have the means to respond and defend themselves if they want. A regular person does not. I'd like Chance to comment on that instead of trying to spin everything into some political confrontation.

Also, I just typed this on my iPhone. Chance just wants to annoy on EVERY possible level, including format.
