Life on the Gay Liberal Plantation

your statement right there ... that's how conservative gay people feel, also

if gay issues were the ONLY issues, maybe fewer gays would be conservatives, BUT ...

there's ridiculous over spending (which both main political parties do) ... uncontrolled immigration ... domestic energy production .... so many issues OTHER than gay issues to consider ... why would one choose one's political affiliation ONLY on one issue?

No, i don't believe the GOP wants to kill me because i'm gay. Some members of the GOP would iike to kill me because i'm gay, but then so would some dems. Although black & hispanic voters are predominately dem, they abhor homosexuality and would gladly get rid of us

to choose one's affiliation or cast one's vote on a single issue is to ignore a plethora of other important issues

QFT!

I'm a registered Delegate of the Texas Democratic Party.

However, when asked how do I define myself "politically" I'm socially Liberal, and fiscally conservative.

I believe in balanced budgets.

I believe that throwing taxpayer money into or at something isn't the answer.

I believe in personal responsibility, while at the same time supporting regulation because not everyone can be responsible.

I say today, that if you're truly "conservative" then if you can't find it within yourself to vote Democrat then you should become a Libertarian.

Because what passes as "conservative" today isn't.

The Republican Party has been taken over by Theocrats, Morons, and political opportunists.

I could support the Log Cabin Republicans in their effort to open up the GOP for the LGBT Community, but when the rubber meets the road they capitulate, write their checks to their respective Republican candidates, and STFU until the next election when they come back out of their closets and talk shit about us for not accepting them.

Recent polls show Hispanic voters have actually had quite a perception shift. Pay attention please...

Opinion: On gay marriage, Latinos agree with Obama - CNN

Maria Cardona: On gay marriage, Latinos agree with Obama

This was a poll done in regards to Latinos:

80% believe that gay people often face discrimination.

That's easy for me to believe. From my time in Miami, and with 'Mexican' cousins, I've found that Latinos on both ends of the country are very sensitive to discrimination. Even among Mexicans who think being a bottom is disgusting and practically sub-human, they'll stand up for all gays, on the premise that it isn't the government's business -- the Church's business, yes, but that's between a person and his priest. It's a very healthy perspective that our 'evangelicals' could learn from.

Again with the "I'm not a single issue voter" bullshit? Is that still a thing? Did we not pass that stage already? Or does it still bear repeating that when it comes to discrimination and oppression the single issue is EVERYTHING? A Jew voting for Hitler because he is not a single issue voter is just as laughably pathetic as a gay person voting Republican.

CHANCE, THIS IS ME EQUATING THE GOP WITH THE NAZI PARTY, PLEASE TAKE NOTE!

Conservatism almost means by definition a skepticism of idealistic reforms, a preference for change to come slowly if it must come. I accept that it doesn't necessarily mean stagnation, but it is not a reform-minded movement.

The trouble is, the status quo does not honour the equality and dignity of gay people. To get recognition of our equality and dignity requires reform; it requires us to move from the status quo.

The problem for the gay conservative is to explain why we should claim our equality more slowly.

Well it goes even further then that, many believe they should be respected as human beings and perceptions are changing. Even with the issue of being submissive or a bottom...

This is just what I notice, even here in LA. I've seen perceptions change a fair bit, especially among Latinos. I think many look back at their countries and see changes...

I heard flat out from a gal (immigrant from Mexico married to immigrant from Ecuador) that they left their countries because there was no respect for "the little people", so they came here, and they mean to have respect for everyone, and the law should be the same. The topic wasn't gays, it was skinny-dipping, but if they'll respect naturists, they'll certainly respect gays.

It's kind of cool to see a passion by immigrants to see their adopted country live up to the expectations that brought them here. That family by itself is enough of an argument to call a certain JUBber's anti-immigration tirades nothing but bullshit -- they're better Americans than most born-here Americans I know.

In an age where horse and carriage were the dominant form of long-distance travel, I can see some point in moving slowly -- especially considering that the same form of transportation was also generally the speed of communication. But now, on election night I can use my laptop to watch exit polls happening live from Atlanta, Austin, Albuquerque, wherever, and if I really wanted I could hop a plane the day before and be in one of those places doing exit interviews. With the "speed of civilization" so much higher, the speed of change should be correspondingly higher: when it comes time for a change for equality, it should come faster than Congress can go home after the vote.

.

To be honest you can find the same argument being made within "liberal" circles as well.

'Just be patient, all good things will come to pass..'

I personally call bullshit.

Things don't "just happen" without some effort being made.

The one thing that the Republicans seem to have over Democrats is an "Ideology over Principles."

What did you say bankside?

Conservatism almost means by definition a skepticism of idealistic reforms...

I think that what passes for "conservatism" in American politics today is that they're trying to get out in front of shit in opposition that hasn't yet even happened, and by shear ideology have manage to get people afraid of the yet unknown.

Seriously!

If some of them want the Second Coming to happen, let us marry AND start having sex in the streets!

If they're right, then God will be here just as soon as they give the okay. ;)

Oh please, just let this thread die. I blame SugarMountain for heartlessly bumping this up again.

Well, to be fair, there is a good argument that marriage equality should not happen overnight, but should come slower, so that people have the time to get used to it. That said, I think it's been going slow enough for the last decades, and it IS time now to use the momentum and just have it done already.

Better the Gay Liberal Plantation than the Conservative Republican Concentration Camp!

^^^^

Thanx guys. Just another person who doesn't get the whole GOProud mindset (& I use the term mind loosely)
Brings to mind Berlin during the war. There were Jewish people who would wander from place to place, trying to keep ahead of the SS & GESTAPO. (Oftimes with actual Christians helping them!! What real Christians actually do). They were called "uboats" by the Berliners. The Nazis paid some Jews to point them out or report them. These cretins did it thinking they'd be spared the camps. Guess what? NADA, they were killed too.

That's who GOProud remind me of.

Here's the thing,,virtually every campaign the GOP runs these days includes making sure the LGBT stays second class citizens. I'm through of trying to show tolerence for people who think we are subhuman. And that''s all the current GOP think of gays.

Many official campaigns don't do it, but just about every last website that is run by the tighty-righties screams it, that the country will be hit by God's judgment if the Democrats win -- and when they're not screaming about that, they're screaming that Obama is waging war on religion, or that he's secretly waiting till he gets re-elected to take away everyone's guns, or that he'll really implement socialism in a second term and turn our kids' brains to sludge, or that he wants to solve the population problem by killing babies . . . .

The only ones in there that can even start to qualify as rational are the ones about new policies in a second term -- and those only work because we never know what someone might do in the future.

I have to laugh at the tea partier's use of "socialism". Scandanavia, the UK, Canada. Things are so horrible there? The tightie whities (good one) tend to forget that Socialist was also utilized by the folks to whom I'd say the tea partiers owe so much to.....The National SOCIALIST Party.

Oh, & too late about the brains going to sludge........Examples of major sludge brains

Sarah Pallin & daughter/unwed mother Bristol
The Bachmans Michelle & wife Marcus
Tony (Backed by the KKK) Perkins
Glenn Beck
Franklin Graham
The entire "birther" movement
Bill Donohue & the Catholic (read pedophile protecters) League
Donald Trump. his orange hair & his hunter heirs
