Limbaugh attacks Michael J. Fox

^Sorry^

I haven't been laid in weeks, so maybe my testasterone is getting the
best of me.... ;)

For those thinking Rush did not have his own tv show.

Television show
Limbaugh had a syndicated half-hour show from 1992 through 1996, produced by Roger Ailes. The television show discussed many of the topics on his radio show, and was taped in front of a live audience. Limbaugh supposedly ended the show due to disappointment that it was aired too late in the evening in many markets (often at 1:30 AM or later) and because of the extensive time required to prepare for the show.

On November 6, 1992, three days after the presidential election, Limbaugh made a reference to Chelsea Clinton, daughter of President-elect Bill Clinton, Limbaugh stated: "Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat; Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?" — a picture of Chelsea then appeared onscreen. Although Limbaugh has claimed it was a technical error, as Al Franken documented in his book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, the show was on a tape delay, so if truly a technical error, it could have been corrected prior to the show's airing. Limbaugh countered that the television show was a big drain on his time and did not include retakes. Limbaugh apologized on his show, claiming fatigue. A few days later, he said, "I don't need to get laughs by commenting on people's looks, especially a young child who's done nothing wrong. I mean, [Chelsea] can't control the way she looks."[2]

On a later broadcast, Limbaugh played a video clip of then-President Bill Clinton laughing and joking on his way to a memorial service for Commerce Secretary Ron Brown with Tony Campolo and then looking mournful upon noticing news cameras in the area. [3] Limbaugh claimed that Clinton's sudden mood change resulted from the spying news cameras, and was evidence of both the President's insincerity and the tendency of the national media to overlook it.

From MSNBC. No matter what one thinks about Limbaugh or Fox or stem cell research, the lack of dignity and callousness of Limbaugh's remarks stagger me. Why does EVERYTHING have to be so mean?

Limbaugh mocks Michael J. Fox political ad

Conservative talk show host accuses actor of faking Parkinson's disease

Election ads get uglier as vote nears
Oct. 25: With less than two weeks until the midterm elections, candidates are increasing the bite of their TV ads, sometimes with ugly results. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

Possibly worse than making fun of someone's disability is saying that it's imaginary. That is not to mock someone's body, but to challenge a person's guts, integrity, sanity.

To Rush Limbaugh on Monday, Michael J. Fox looked like a faker. The actor, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, has done a series of political ads supporting candidates who favor stem cell research, including Maryland Democrat Ben Cardin, who is running against Republican Michael Steele for the Senate seat being vacated by Paul Sarbanes.

"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease," Limbaugh told listeners. "He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act. . . . This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting."

Limbaugh, whose syndicated radio program has a weekly audience of about 10 million, was reacting to Fox's appearance in another one of the spots, for Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill, running against Republican Sen. James M. Talent.

But the Cardin ad is similar. It is hard to watch, unless, for some reason, you don't believe it. As he speaks, Fox's restless torso weaves and writhes in a private dance. His head bobs from side to side, almost leaving the video frame.
"This is the only time I've ever seen Michael J. Fox portray any of the symptoms of the disease he has," Limbaugh said. "He can barely control himself."

'A shameless statement'
Later Monday, still on the air, Limbaugh would apologize, but reaction to his statements from Parkinson's experts and Fox's supporters was swift and angry.
"It's a shameless statement," John Rogers said yesterday. Rogers, Fox's political adviser, who also serves on the board of the Parkinson's Action Network, added: "It's insulting. It's appallingly sad, at best."

"Anyone who knows the disease well would regard his movement as classic severe Parkinson's disease," said Elaine Richman, a neuroscientist in Baltimore who co-wrote "Parkinson's Disease and the Family." "Any other interpretation is misinformed."

Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said on his show that Michael J. Fox "exaggerated" the effects of Parkinson's disease in several political ads.

Fox was campaigning yesterday for Tammy Duckworth, a congressional candidate, outside Chicago, when he alluded to Limbaugh's remarks. "It's ironic, given some of the things that have been said in the last couple of days, that my pills are working really well right now," he said, according to a report on the CBS2 Web site.

After his apology, Limbaugh shifted his ground and renewed his attack on Fox.
"Now people are telling me they have seen Michael J. Fox in interviews and he does appear the same way in the interviews as he does in this commercial," Limbaugh said, according to a transcript on his Web site. "All right then, I stand corrected. . . . So I will bigly, hugely admit that I was wrong, and I will apologize to Michael J. Fox, if I am wrong in characterizing his behavior on this commercial as an act."
Then Limbaugh pivoted to a different critique: "Michael J. Fox is allowing his illness to be exploited and in the process is shilling for a Democratic politician."

'Hope to millions of Americans'
Limbaugh's shock at Fox's appearance is a measure of the disease's devastation, advocates say. Contrary to the charge that Fox might not take his medicine to enhance his symptoms, the medicine produces some of the uncontrolled body movements.

"Stem cell research offers hope to millions of Americans with diseases like diabetes, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's," Fox says in the Cardin ad. "But George Bush and Michael Steele would put limits on the most promising stem cell research."

Fox has appeared in ABC's "Boston Legal" this season. In his scenes, taped over the summer, Fox does not shake or loll his head as he does in the Cardin commercial, but does appear to be restraining himself, appearing almost rigid at times.
A source with direct knowledge of Fox's illness who viewed the Cardin ad said Fox is not acting to exaggerate the effects of the disease. The source said Fox's scenes in "Boston Legal" had to be taped around his illness, as he worked to control the tremors associated with Parkinson's for limited periods of time.

I'm still aghast that anyone would defend Rush Limbaugh or call ME "Callous" for pointing out what an obnoxious thing he said.

Or the things, for that matter.

It shows exactly how devoid of emotion, compassion or humanity conservatives have become when making fun of people's disabilities or saying they're faking is someting they will defend.

Who cares what that fat ass jerk thinks about anything..
He has enough problems of his own, he better paddle his own canoe.
I can't stand that lard ass!!!!!

Just saw the ads, and the footage of Limbaugh. What a fucking disgrace! How dare he accuse someone of exagerating an illness purely because he dislikes the politics involved.

To quote Al Franken - Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot.

Is this not same man few months ago had drug problem that said drug dealers need to be in prison. Rush needs to be sent up the river and gang banged until his full of cum.

Rush is an asshole and needs to leave Michael and everyone else alone until he gets his own shit straight...Even then he just needs to shut his mouth.

I listen to nothing Russ has to say....he's a bore........

I would kill to be as flawless as all of you who criticize Rush Limbaugh.

That said . . .

Rush's point was that Michael J. Fox entered the political realm. He made a statement that is false. That supporting Republicans and not voting Democrat will mean that there will never be a cure for his disease.

That's pure crap.

No one, include myself and Rush Limbaugh, wishes that anyone should have to endure the effects of Parkinsons. If any of us could snap a finger and make it go away, we would.

Furthermore, the argument that Republicans are preventing ANY KIND of stem cell research is just stupid. President Bush has taken a stand that federal tax dollars shouldn't go to support it. Many states and many private industries have continued to do the research.

Finally, the ad that Michael J. Fox created was NOT about stem cell research. His ad was about voting for the Democrat because the Republican didn't support his cause. Are you all saying that anyone who is disabled can lie and make up facts and anyone who calls him/her on it is the bigot?

There MUST be some way that liberals/Democrats and conservatives/Republicans can agree to get together and debate ideas on their merit, not on personality.

I like Michael J. Fox. I like Rush Limbaugh. I have no beef or criticism of either.

The question is: Who, in this case only, has the stronger argument?

alfie,

Never try to confuse a conservative with the facts.

it makes them all dizzy.

I am NOT a fan of Michael J. Fox; but I am sorry for him having Parkinson's and wish him good luck in his fight to conqueor this damned disease!

My problem with Michael, was in his appearance before congress:

He of course was trying to get Congress to fund Parkinson's MORE and try and find a cure for it. My problem was when he compared Parkinson's to HIV...Michael only showed part of the HIV fund-raising picture and why it gets so much force. He doesn't acknowledge the prejudice against Gay HIV sufferers (that they somehow deserve the disease). He ignores its scourge in the inner city and the way in which the virus inhales our tax dollars and medical (not research) resources. Most importantly, however, the comparison is invalid because HIV is highly communicable, while Parkinson's is NOT.

The fundraising issue is important, and Fox concisely and compellingly addresses the potential for a cure in the near future—how that makes Parkinson's a worthy focus for research money and how recent legislative attempts to curtail stem-cell research could curtail Parkinson's research.

Again, though, he lost me at the comparison to HIV fund raising. There has to be a better way to fund the larger picture of medical research.

I did read Michael's bio book: The Lucky Man and found it to be very entertaining and a heart-felt understanding of how he was dealing with his Parkinson's disease.

I am NOT a fan of Rush Limbaugh; but I guess he does have a right to his freedom of speech; but he should NOT have attacked Michael for his NOT using his medicine before his appearance before Congress so that they would see the full force of the disease on him without being medicated!

I don't think openly attacking a person before a TV/radio audience is the right approach to anything; especially a politically, vote related issue to hurt a candidate(s)!(*8*) (*8*)

Michael has been a strong supporter for Stem Cell research. Who he wants to give voting support to is none of Rush's dag gom business.

Rush has a history of using sarcasim, racisim, right wing supportives while he hides behind his religous zealot believers. He's still bitter because he came close to loosing his pathetic radio job due to his carelessness of scouting for and using various colorful pills.

Once in America we had a great country to speak our minds however Rush Limpuke, his show and admirers are sheer pestilents.

Mr Fox has bigger balls and moral strengths than Limbaugh himself or any of Limpukes small-minded ant farmers!

Back off of Michael Fox!

Rush still hasnt learned that a Higher Power can show him, REAL PAIN that will make Rush SHAKE & RATTLE ALL DAY & NIGHT

so as you crazy democrats once again lie and twist words to try and make your point. he didnt say he fakes it, he said he comes of medication before he goes on TV and the likes to try and emphasise he has it, he did not say he was faking it! and on that youtube video he isnt even fat so what you on about calling him fat?
