I like the beats. I'm a big fan of the electronics and dance. But, more often than not, I'm not a huge fan of female artists.

Not on purpose, it just seems that way looking at my music collection.

Though largely I blame the Disney Company for encouraging ing her (and all their other little money pits) to be a jack of all trades.

I've recently realized I'm pretty into her....

The song isn't the best she's done, but it's decent. I like it, I don't think it's as bad as people are saying. It's sad when a celebrity's persona overshadows their talent (think Courtney Love). Once you're known for being a fuck-up, you can't do anything right. & that sucks, because I think Lindsay is a HUGE talent!

I was actually mainly talking about her acting when I said "HUGE talent". As I said before, the song is decent; I wouldn't call it spectacular or anything .... I like her music ("Confessions of a Broken Heart" is brilliant if you ask me) and by today's standards, she is actually pretty fucking BOMB. Who does actually sing these days???? In an age where people are spending millions of dollars for someone like Ashlee Simpson or Paris Hilton to make an album, Lindsay deserves alittle more credit.

But ... ya know, it's just my opinion. ;)

They don't do it just to do it. They do it because consumers friggin' eat it up with a spoon. Does the world need Hannah Montana shoelaces, or High School Musical 2 hand sanitizer? Of course not. But this crap sells. That "Speak" album may have been pretty lame, but it entered Billboard at #4.

If people bought nothing but art, they'd give us nothing but art. But we've voted with our wallets. And we've demanded more of this. So here you go.

HAHA! Trust me, my taste isn't limited to Lindsay Lohan. All I'm saying is I think she stands out from most of her peers and I like her.

I don't think we've seen her at her best either. I think, as an actress, she's in that "in-between" phase where she's being offered basically the same roles because of her age. Let her settle into her 20's & 30's and she will be amazing!

....& btw: I never thought I'd be this hardcore about defending Lindsay Lohan. :cool: HA!

I think she gets plenty of appropriate recognition for her talents when she actually deserves them. When Mean Girls came out it was all hail Lindsay. People used her as an example of what teen stars SHOULD be. They couldn't stop talking about how great of a young actress she was, how positive a role model she was, etc. etc. Then we she started getting wasted, driving around and getting in accidents, and getting caught with coke, she sabotaged herself. I think she even stated in an interview that she was not going to party anymore and focus on her acting because "People aren't going to remember you for how much you partied." And yet, that was before she hit a car and they found coke on her.

Besides, the angry hype about her is because of the image she portrays. You always get to see who's the next media darling. Right now, it's Ellen Paige and Miley Cyrus. Nothing about Ellen Paige talks about anything other than how down-to-earth she is and how focused on her career she is and how she's not like those "other" teen starlets. Likewise, articles always ran about how Miley "still does her homework every night" and "goes to church with the family every Sunday." It's just a matter of time before they get lambasted about growing up or doing something slightly provocative, like the Vanity Fair nonsense that got completely blown out of proportion and scandalized.

The exact thing happened with Christina Aguilara when she came out. She was hyped as being "docile" while having an excellent voice. Then she "slutted out" and got slammed for it and no one really cared that she could actually sing. Then she cleaned up and did this classic vintage look and no one could find anything to object seriously about, so they now praise her for her excellent voice and the way she got her act together compared to Britney.

If Lindsay was acting (and acting well) and cleaning up her act, she'd get the recognition when stacked against Britney or Paris because they have nothing. But right now, the behavior, the crappy music...it's not helping her keep people focused on what she does best.

Yes, exactly. But then people keep wondering why. "Why does she get a record deal? Why is she on the radio?" The answer is pretty obvious. Similiarly, "Why does it suck so much?" Because it doesn't have to NOT suck. Because as long as they put a dance beat and vaguely "cool" lyrics and a hook in there somewhere, it's guaranteed to sell X copies. They could spend a ton more, and possibly - POSSIBLY - get a bigger hit, but why?
