Listerine as Hair Conditioner?

Latin

means "therefore"

EDIT: Wow. My 1000th post. How meaningful :p

Uhm, Alcohol in hair = bad.

It's highly reccomended that you do not use Alcohol based shampoos, as they can damage your hair, and (cause hairloss).

You best bet is to go with natural shampoos and not shampoo too often, because that's not good for your hair either.

Now, now....

That's just your shrinking prostate talking, D.....

Might as well try some Head & Shoulders for tooth paste while you're at it.

I wouldn't bank on it for good tarter control, however :)

You have the right idea.

These people sound like the guys who put toothpaste on their zits.....

Are people THAT cheap?

People color and bleach their hair all the time in hair salons. That stuff is really bad for hair. They're not being cheap though. lol

If applied and treated reularly with the correct, professional products, your hair will be slightly damaged, but still remain in a healthy condition.

Do I bleach my hair? No.

I'm about to graduate from beauty school, I know a lot of people who bleach their hair, and most of the time it looks like shit. Thats why i dont do it. I recommend extensions and dedication to one haircolour with my clients.

Like me, I've been dying my hair black for more than 2 years. I don't change my colour every month like some professionals do, and trust me, their hair is fried.

If people see a professional that has healthy hair, they believe that they can achieve the same results if they visit them. Is it a false image? Eh, sometimes.

But its vital for me to not change my entire style like I see so many others do around me.

I'd rather use Listerine than cum... like in that one thread a few days ago.

I'll stick to using cum in my hair instead of Listerine. I've gotten very good results so far, and it makes my hair very soft and manageable. I will never put an alcohol based product on my hair.

You promised you wouldn't tell.... ;)

Now, let me get this straight. (so to speak)

You shampoo your hair, then pour Listerine over your head ? Doesn't it just run down the drain ?

I'm confused...

As much as I find your application fo cum in your hair gross, thankyou for not putting listerine in your hair.

It will DRY it out. It is Alcohol. Maybe the few guys who found it succesful have an excess of oils in their hairstrands, but overtime, the negative effects will start to show.

But it's still being damaged though. I don't know if the alcohol in Listerine is enough to cause damage but it does feel clean and healthy after I used it. I don't think I will use it every day because I think that might damage it though. Maybe just once a week and see how it feels.
But really, do you think it could be bad for your hair?

Well, humans are vain. Beauty is pain....as the saying goes.

Many people are willing to compromise the integrity of hair to get the hot "look"

Since I want some professional opinions about this subject, I will ask one of my instructors tomorrow about this listerine business. I will reply what she had to say.

But truth be told, you can buy professional shampoos and conditioners for the same price at your local grocery store, the only negative is that you have to go out of your way to buy them.

You won't get the BEST for a low price, but you it will sooooo much better than head and shoulders or pantene. You will notice the difference, trust.

I would like to say that I do understand why people put things like eggs and cum in their hair. It's for the protein.

And protein is good for your hair, not in excessive amounts, but it helps against dry and brittle hair.

I would still highly recommend a protein reconstructor, of course.

With all this mayonaisse and eggs in the hair, who wants to smell like lunch?

The person who started this thread must have hairlotosis, huh?

Wow. See, I'm with the others here in that I'd think the antiseptic part of listerine would shred your hair. Guess you learn something new everyday!

PS, Joshua, I see you have curly to wavy hair. Let me tell you, brother, the Listerine is the best detangler on the face of the earth!! Try it once and you'll see.

I'll thank you to keep the thoughts of my tangles to yourself, thank you very much.....

Nah, I'm kidding.... ;)

I can't believe I'm going to try this.... Orange Listerine on my hair....

Oy !!

but it does feel clean and healthy after I used it.

It's just like using Listerine in your mouth. Just because it feels clean and healthy, doesn't mean it is clean and healthy

;)

ok, I asked a few of my instructors at my beauty school about listerine.

Listerine is an astringent, it works well for a dry scalp. They wouldn't recommend, and have never heard of anyone using it as a conditioner. They wouldn't recommend it because on the pH scale it falls into the alkaline category.

* ph scale 0-10, acidic, neutral, alkaline. Typically with any hair product, you want to be very careful with using a product that falls into the alkaline area( such as chemical hair relaxers and bleach).

Ta-dah!

wow....if only I knew this a couple weeks ago. I actually chooped all my hair off because I was so tired of it being dry and poofy. ok...now I have to remember, listerine for hair...got it.

I think it might be time to give this long-defunct thread a bump.

I noticed some people thought that Listerine on the hair might be unhealthy. I have unearthed a photo that suggests that, at one time, the use of Listerine as a hair tonic wasn't too uncommon:

I would think the alcohol content in Listerine would be extremely bad for hair and scalp, making both extremely dry.

Seems like I remember hearing fairly recently that Listerine, when it first came out was supposedly flaunted as the cure all for many things before it finally settled on a mouth wash as it's main use. I don't think a lot of them would be recommended today.

Basically it started out as a "Snake Oil" and settled for mouth wash.
