Re: Little know facts

Less time separates us from Tyrannosaurus rex than separated T. rex from Stegosaurus.
The Stegosaurus lived 150 million years ago, while the T-Rex lived only 65 million years ago.

Cleopatra lived closer to the building of Pizza Hut than the pyramids.
The Great Pyramid was built circa 2560 BC, while Cleopatra lived around 30 BC. The first Pizza Hut opened in 1958, which is about 500 years closer.

The first pyramids were built while the woolly mammoth was still alive.
While most mammoths died out 10,000 years ago, a small population still survived until 1650 BC. By that point, Egypt was halfway through its empire, and the Giza Pyramids were already 1000 years old.

Oxford University is older than the Aztecs.
Teaching started in Oxford as early as 1096, and by 1249, the University was officially founded. The Aztec civilization as we know it began with the founding of Tenochtitlán in 1325.

If you’re over 45, the world population has doubled in your lifetime.
In 1968, the world population was 3,557,000,000. Today, the world population is 7,217,000,000 and grows by over 200,000 daily.

Easy mistake.

In Spanish, when used as a noun, Burro = Donkey.

When used as an adjective - burro = stupid, dim.

Didn't translate literally into english though. Still a really cool name for a game. :D

Houseflies hum in the key of F.

Apparently, the common housefly flaps its wings about 190 times per second, and the human ear interprets that frequency as a pitch* along the F major scale (which includes pitches F, G, A, B♭, C, D, and E). While not every housefly is the same size and flaps at the same speed, the measurements are always proportional, insuring the creatures consistently hit the same notes.

*I presume this means F in modern day A=440 concert pitch.

Re: Little know facts

How does a fly land on the ceiling? It flies very close to the ceiling, lifts its front legs above its head and catches the ceiling. Momentum flips the body upside down. It takes off the opposite way, releasing its 4 hind legs first and, as the body is swinging down, releases its front legs and begins to fly.
