....A Night To Remember....I loved Laura Nyro so much...so sad when she died (RIP)...one of my favorite Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductions...and Bette Midler...when Bette lost it..so did I! Really cool tribute!
It was the spring of my college sophomore year, 1970. My girlfriend urged me to attend a concert by someone named Laura Nyro. I had no idea who that was.
It was a small venue on campus, with folding metal chairs arranged around a huge, black, Steinway grand piano, and a microphone. No stage. No special lighting. Maybe 500 people, max.
I don't recall her even being introduced.
I remember her as a petite, shy, girl, in black, with long black hair. Having checked out her Wiki page, just now, I discovered she was only 3 yr. older than me.
We were sitting three rows away. I wasn't all that impressed. I was there to make Kay happy. I was being tolerant.
When Laura began playing, and singing, I was blown away! I knew these songs! She wrote them? WOW!
My memories of that night are fuzzy now, almost 48 yr. later, but I shall always cherish those moments, and consider myself extremely fortunate to have been able to experience such enormous talent, up close, and personal.
