I am a new guy to this community so this question may have been posed before but I am wondering....does anyone else notice that younger guys are not being as open with being naked in locker rooms as guys in their 30's or 40's?

I mean the younger guys go to major extremes not to show themselves in the locker room....I was changing the other day and saw this guy take off a sopping wet pair of underwear and put on a new pair UNDER a towel...it was very difficult for him to achieve this and I realized that he took a shower in his underwear! I mean when I undress, I dont strut through the locker room naked, I put on a towel but I don't have a problem dropping the towel to put on underwear and I don't shower with them on.

It got me to thinking that you don't see younger guys naked like you did back a few years ago.....is it just society that dictates that you don't let your buddies see your junk??? When I was in college(18 yrs ago) we were naked or in boxers all the time in the apt and there was never a thought of getting undressed in front of anyone in the locker room.

Just curious as to others thoughts?

Good question. Personally, I think men our age just get the notion we don't give a shit either way. We paid our dues so look and lust or look and leave. I think younger men are probably more conscious of others looking at their "junk".

I didn't like being scoped out when I was younger...we used a term called "trolls" to refer to older men who seemed overly infactuated without our "business".

If I were around guys my own age, I didn't care..........if a troll daddy was scoping me out, I did a lot to hide and protect myself. It was just too creepy.

Hmm... it seems to be the case where I go too.

Looks like you lose your modesty considerably as you age. The oldest guys who are like 60-70 don't give a shit at all, and walk around strutting their sagging gross bodies EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE.

To be honest though, younger guys who avoid showing their nudity like you describe probably just aren't used to it yet. You just need an experience where it's the norm and I think you can get over it easily enough. For example, in the army you get over that shyness really quick.

Not knowing the age of the other guy it hard to say, if he was a teenager they're afraid their junk may be undersized or they don't want anyone to think they are gay or any number of strange phobias. Teenagers are become more closeted.

rin,
1st. (*W*)(UU)(*W*) hope you enjoy yourself and visit often.

2nd. yours and others experience with these younger guys might be that they are new to the nude male locker room and suffer from that locker room shyness syndrome. unlike 15+ years ago many of these kids didn't do military service and their high school p.e. locker rooms are a lot fancier/private than we had.

i mean hell, wasn't only about 25 yrs ago thzt ymca swimming pools started be suits required rather than no suits allowed. i bet about 4-6 mos and these kids will blow off the hang ups because its too fucking inconvenient and think "what the fuck nobody else seems to care". only time will tell

I remember being in a swim club and when it came to shower time, I was terrified of taking off my suit. Other guys got naked and it was fine, but I had a hyperactive dick and I didn't want anyone to see my hard on. Now I'm a little less self conscious about it, but my dick still gets hard in an instant. So after I swim now, I better be exhausted, otherwise my dick will pop up to say hello to anyone else in the shower room. Even if they are 105 and their balls look like they are being held up with a melting wad of gum. If I feel my dick starting to swell, I book it to my towel and cover up before I'm at full mast.

So I understand when young guys don't want anyone else to see their dicks. They probably don't want anyone to see if they are getting a hard on because they are scared of the message it sends. I've seen guys at the pool with hard ons and they hang out in the shower soaping up their cocks for hours at a time waiting for someone to take the bait.

^As with all things, it's terrifying the first few times. Then, as with all things, you get used to it after about a week and it becomes a non-issue. But, you have to do it first before it can become a non-issue.

I used to chirp my training partner all the time about doing exactly the same thing. Finally one day he just got up the courage to do it and has been fine ever since. We don't hang around naked in the locker room for days, either, but you don't have to scurry about hiding under a towel.

In related news, there was a dude in the steam-room at the gym the other day in a pair of tracksuit pants. TRACKSUIT PANTS for fuck's sake. Dude, go home. You're not exactly not drawing attention to yourself.

Well I am nothing like this haha. I actually strut around naked, I don't have the best of bodies, thats the only thing that would slow me down. I'm a beefy type of guy. Around where I am, everyone is conservative with their body :(.

Just a peak at what my body is like.

All very interesting replies and I understand what everyone is saying....I think it is interesting that young guys feel like they cant be more open, even if it is for just a few seconds while taking off or putting on shorts....I used to get undressed to the buff when I was in high school and college all the time and it was sort of a bonding thing with the other guys you become close to...I think I have had some pretty meaningful conversations sitting in a towel or just your nothing while changing in the gym with buddies. I certainly did not want to give the impression that I was lurking or staring at these guys...just noticed it was odd that they are almost paranoid about it! And I really never thought about getting a hard on while changing or taking a shower so that could be part of it too....the dick has a mind of its own on a regular basis!!!!!!!!!

North American culture has changed. Speaking as someone who has been around for a (long) while, people's attitudes about nudity and sexuality have changed, more in reaction to a presumed sexual revolution than as evidence of it. When I was young being nude in a locker room wasn't any more potentially sexual than any other setting. It had more to do with sport and staying clean. There was a lot less overt homophobia. This was during the time when men and boys swam nude at the Y withing giving it a second thought. Nudity was natural and you expected to see ALL body types uncovered. Trust me, most of what you'd see there wouldn't turn you on.

^It just amazes me that in a society where EVERYTHING is over-sexualised and they use sex to sell everything in existence, and it works, everyone is so prudish.

I mean, my mates and I never ever did a group j/o, we never discuss sex except in very shallow and vague detail but we are happy to change in front of each other. Other guys I know who have done the circle jerk with each other and who brag about and really discuss their sex lives in immense detail are the first ones to bail when it comes to shower at the gym. I don't understand it.

Interesting question. I am a coach, but do not go into the locker room before or after practice very often. The few times I have been in there, there have been guys changing in the stalls and almost everyone else changing with a towel around them. Another interesting thing that has already been mentioned, many guys do not shower after gym class and come to class sweaty and smelly. I don't understand this too much as I always showered after gym and never changed in the locker room with a towel around me. I've never asked any of the kids about it as it does not bother me, maybe the younger guys can enlighten the older crowd.

When I was in highschool, we were REQUIRED to shower after gym class or any kind of practice unless it was your last scheduled thing for the day. "Hygiene" issues. Who wants to sit next to someone smelly their entire class?

Then, the parents got involved and then it wasn't a requirement any more (at least at my school). It was left up the the student entirely, whether or not they decided to shower. I remember the parents making such a stink about it - about their child having to 'be naked' in front of any other person naked and vice versa. Okay, understandable. Because there were those who didn't care, there were those you did. There were the ones who got teased because of this or that.

However, in previous generations, like say my parents, there wasn't a second thought about nudity. Which I think plays a lot into why 'older' people just don't care. They weren't conditioned to think nudity was a bad thing. No, I'm not saying its the parents fault or anything, but given my generation and todays generation, I think it's because they've been made to think it's something bad.. Well, not bad.. You know what I mean.. Just my honest opinion..

Just because older men feel comfortable getting naked in locker rooms or in front of another men, it doesn't necessarily mean that younger men should feel the same way too. Perhaps it's just a phase, but in the meantime let them have their privacy as to why or how they cover their stuff before, during, and after the shower. It's nobody's business anyway but theirs.

well I'm 19 and I've just sort of grown up thinking I should keep what's mine private lol it's not like it was an explicitly said thing, its just what everyone did.

but yeah I would have thought it was wierd for someone to shower after gym class. and I was in Track & Cross Country and when we had to change into under armor or our uniforms (which involved at least taking off our shorts) we just did it real quick in front of everyone. I noticed the guys in football didn't care as much when they were changing.

I was also in swimming and we all changed in front of each other but did it real quick. so that's sort of it. I'm becoming more and more comfortable getting naked in the locker rooms (although I'm doing it to get attention from other guys haha) but I'm still very apprehensive about doing it and usually have to fight a hard on. I guess its just how I grew up thinking....unfortunately I guess!

This whole thing is STRICTLY limited to North America. I'm living in Tokyo right now and have been to a few onsen/sento (public baths using either water pumped in from a hot spring or just regular tapwater). People of all ages, from elementary to senior walk around naked (obviously these things are gender segregated and it's as much a social activity as it is a way to get clean and relax). Grant it, Japanese society is generally much more open about sexual things and I've never been very modest but I have noticed that people in my generation and younger are usually VERY modest compared to other cultures.

it's pretty simple actually. most teens and younger dudes think seeing others dudes penises are gross (and gay probably). and the older guys that spend all their time in the locker rooms hanging out literally really scare them.

^Yeah, some of the guys hang around way too naked for way too long. If they're trying to indicate to the shy guys that its relaxing and normal to do that, I don't think it's working.

I get naked, but I don't hang around in there naked. Probably because I'd feel silly being the only one in there doing it, and partly because I'd feel like a pervert.

Yeah, it really is amazing....I can see if you were swimming and got in the shower with the swim trunks on to rinse them off but then the trunks and you continue your shower naked...that seems reasonable. But you are right, I know this guy I saw took a shower in his boxers....I think I understand experiences and circumstances but that is carrying things to the nth degree! I am am a "grower" not a "shower" but I still get naked, grab a towel, and hit the showers like I am hung to hell and back! I just learned that guys in the locker room are not in there to get off...they are in there to change, shower and leave....I think all guys look to compare but such is life!
