Speaking for myself only:
if I want to go anywhere in the UK (air travel excluded), I need to go through London, so it's the most convenient for me by far. Okay, there's Canterbury (bus stop before London), but I doubt people want to go there.
Oh i don't know - I think that a good gay invasion would do Canterbury some good
If you want more central, I'd recommend Oxford - doesn't seem to be too expensive for the night, great pubs, within two hours of manchester (i think), and there's a good gay populace there already - feel free to disagree, but that's my recommendation

Birmingham is more central geographically, but as more people live down south, London's probably more convenient. Then, the rest of us more up north can easily get there by train via Brum or directly to London...
That depends on whether you're talking about England in isolation or the whole of the UK. If we were thinking about a UK meet, the city nearest to the geographical centre of the country is in fact Manchester.

I'm not going to argue. There's just most of the country's transport lines converging there, and the area is called Central England - and the two counties (West and East) Midlands...
You're absolutely right. If we wanted a JUB meet purely for English and Welsh members, Birmingham would be a central venue. If the Scots were invited though, it would be fairer to move it north to Manchester. I think Manchester has the better gay scene too, which is hard for me to say as a Yorkshireman.
Btw, there is no such county as East Midlands.
