London Olympics 2012

Re: The London Olympics Opening Ceremony

I thought it was a little snooze-worthy (except for the fireworks). Could be in part that I find British history utterly boring and have zero interest in their culture (aside from a few famous authors).

Nothing will top Beijing in 2008.

Don't care unless it involves USA basketball or Holley Mangold. Not very patriotic, I know.

I know guys like Lochte are supposed to be hot and stuff, but I can't bring myself to care. Also, Horton is so weird looking.

I miss Shawn and Nastia. But I guess Gabby Douglas is cool too.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

I wish Lochte could win Sun yang- the mean fuck face. But then again, I think height/tall is matter in swimming...I notice Lochte body doesn't has the best built for swimming. Just like today, in a few seconds before they touch pool rim, Yang torpedo body just excellerates his long arm to beat Lochte in 10 seconds.:(

It's tough..but at least they're hand in hand.

Big feet are helpful in swimming, too. The ideal swimmer would have long arms, big hands, be narrow at the waist, have long slender legs and massive feet.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

The opening ceremony fireworks were brill.

Re: The London Olympics Opening Ceremony

I wanted pomp, circumstance, something allegorial and mythical but what I got was Mr. Bean, sick children, dancing Industrialists, and Cruella DeVille. And televised rugby had nothing to do with Britain's agrarian beginnings. I saw the rugby clips and May pole dancers and I was totally confused.

Assuming someone hadn't done an Alex DeLarge on you, nothing was stopping you from changing the channel to something else. Enjoyed watching Mr. Bean, sick children, dancing industrialists, Cruella Deville, and even Kenneth Branagh (you may not have recognised him).

I, for one, particularly enjoyed the ubiquitous drummers. To borrow from Ron Weasley, "That was bloody brilliant."

Re: The London Olympics Opening Ceremony

^Produce it or don't; shit or get off the fucking pot.

Re: The London Olympics Opening Ceremony

I love it. I wish people would stop comparing opening ceremonies.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

Then Phelps is perfect :p

Did you know that, if he stands with his arms and hands stretched out, Michael is wider than he is tall?

Oh, yeah. His feet are size 14.

(It was just on our Canadian Olympic broadcast.)

Re: The London Olympics Opening Ceremony

I like your rewrite, Phillyurban.

But I also rather liked the one they put together.

Re: The London Olympics Opening Ceremony

I thought it was boring, and confusing. I didn't see any "wow" moments, or "water cooler talk" stuff. Just my opinion, and I'm not bashing anyone. Just sayin..........
This is my opinion as well... I suspect the queen would agree, judging from her face, lol.

Re: The London Olympics Opening Ceremony

Oh, honey child, I did change the channel. I first flipped when the lady drove her Mini Cooper up to the house, thought "it can't be that bad," changed it back and saw that wretched pop romance unfolding and then changed it for good.

Look, you HAVE to admit that in ten minutes of writing I created a more exhilerating, coherent show than director Boyle did in 7 years of planning with $40 million U.S!

Just a simple question , how far can you really get that head of yours up your arse ? Have a lovely night .

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

I watched (The Snatch & Clean) Weightlifting Kilograms event today and Man those World Wide Weightlifting Champions were intense & emotional....They had tears in their Eyes on & off the floor...Then the PRESSURE from the Coaches and the crowds...

Good-Looking Colombian Weightlifter Oscar Mosquera was something to watch...You only get 3 chances to lift the two Houses above your head and Oscar struggled the first 2 times....3rd time was the charm and he lifted it and held it and set a record to take home the Silver-Medal.....

And what's up with all the EMPTY seats @ the events? MSNBC said everything was sold OUT years ago but no one is showing up to watch the LIVE events....London Olympic officials should have had seat-fillers on standby 24/7....Now they're srcambling to find ANYBODY to fill a seat....Not good...

Side note...I see they have the table tennis chamionship going on..Well if the Olympics EVER have a FoosBall event I will try out...I was the BEST when I was 10yrs old. I still got it 25yrs later....

That's not a new thing. Corporations buy up entire blocks of tickets to hand out to employees, but very few of the employees attend. Then there's the seats reserved for foreign dignitaries... who don't attend. It's been going on for decades.

Re: Todays the Day! 2012 London Summer Olympics!

One thing I really dislike about the Olympics this year are all the delays in broadcasting. I know it's been a common thing in the past -- but almost everything is recorded and edited.

Does NBC think we would not be able to handle live broadcasts?

Also -- what happened to the Olympic flame? I watched a lot of the coverage over the weekend and nothing --- I did read that they moved it from the middle of the Olympic stadium floor -- but hey .... we all know that NBC has lots of videotape of it.

Why aren't they showing it?

Apparently, NBC is being broadcast time-delayed. In fact, I just read an article about it. Apparently, the events were hitting Twitter before they hit the television screen. Apparently, there's even a hashtag (whatever that is): https://twitter.com/search/#nbcfail

Here's the article: Twitter blamed for disrupting BBC

As for the flame, it was lit in the middle of the field and was moved off the playing field to the spot where it will remain throughout the games. Unfortunately, there is only one spot outside the stadium where it can be sort of viewed. They're selling tickets to the public to go inside to see it, though.
